Edited by: Rhostar Gratrix on 15/11/2006 20:40:39 Ok before everyone jumps all over me, I am just a 5 day old nub but a thought came to me about skilling(and I am sure others have brought it up). I know that my character still learns the skill I chose for him even if I am off-line.
Why not a way thru the web-page to continue the skill training. so if I am somewhere else at the time and have no access to an EVE client then I can simply log into the web-site, check my training, and if he is done, go ahead and start a new level in something? *edit* something he already has the training for. not something he has to get a book for. *edit*

Hearsay follows:
Here's the explanation that made me stop asking for this feature. Maybe it'll work on you.
The bureaucratic reason why you can't do this is because it would allow a loophole in the EULA. It's against the terms of use to have third-party software interact with the client, but they can't stop you from using software that interacts with your web browser.
Thus, it becomes possible for character-growing macro programs to be written that will churn out a fleet of optimized characters for sale or use as grief alts. CCP is concerned that this would hurt gameplay (See Ragnarok Online if you don't believe them) and have avoided features that can be easily turned into toon farms. No skill queue, no website skill changes.
I'm not happy about it, but having played RO, I can't really hate it, either. -------------- Civis Ascendant Sum |

I suppose I will have to accept that, never played RO myself. But looking at the skill system, you can only level 1 skill at a time, over a certain period of time, and as each skill gets better it takes longer to have it learned. Just seems like it is the type of system that really isnt prone to macro leveling. I mean sure I can just not play the game, skill up every skill, then after.. what 2 years + have all skills maxed and sell the character(which I'm not suggesting as it is wrong and against the EULA). Just dont see the profit in taking one character and waiting that long to skill up all skills just to sell. I saw much more of it in WoW with people getting powerleveled to 60 via macro leveling and paid services. and 60 was/is very easy to get to in that game. maybe 2-3 weeks of solid play.
Thanks for the explanation. I will just leave this on the back burner as something I want but something that could be potentially game breaking.

This is a large issue, especially for those EVE players serving in the world's various armed forces in active-duty status.
I myself serve in the United States Navy, and have a six-month deployment on the books for 2007. However, since this is out at sea, I will have no way of managing my account save for my billing. A lightweight client capable of managing skill-training would be very useful, especially on the low-bandwidth Internet services most deployed units have.
