Good afternoon wise market-tycoon types!
Perhaps someone in this helpful forum can enlighten me about something that to me appears to defy all reason: that the price of a Garmur blueprint is higher than a Garmur.
I've recently hit wall producing some small items at a steady profit. I'm still making that same profit but my net worth has increased quite a bit and I'm looking for bigger percentages. I found a few possibilities and am trying them out on a small scale, and then I thought, hmm, what about a Garmur? They're beautiful ships, quite expensive, and quite useful (albeit in a specific niche). I checked the price of the ship itself, around 74M at the time I looked, and then I checked out the BPC, and choked on my coffee, it was a bit more than the ship itself, around 79.
Not the material cost (which is negligible as in most faction BPC's), just the blueprint itself! I don't know why this bothers me so much but it really does! It defies any explanation I can think of.
So I thought I'd ask in here, mayhaps there is some complex logic here I am not getting? Or is it simply a case of market pvp where the seller is trying to pvp his or herself?
I hope this is going in the right forum! I am hoping to deepen my understanding of market forces.
Thanks kindly for reading and any insight you feel like offering :)

It's always hard to tell because random is random, but I am fairly certain they dialed back the amount of BPCs that were dropping so the supply side of the BPCs is not what it used to be, this would explain the discrepancy as the current stock of Garmurs were built when the supply of BPCs was much higher and coincidentally the price of the BPC was lower.

You can't change the price of a public contract for free in the way you can with a market order. (Not technically free but the cost is basically nil).
So if you are undercut selling hulls, you probably counter-undercut. Undercut selling BPCs? Counter-undercutting is less of an option.

The profitable contracts have all been bought out, so you're left with either break even, or loss ones.
It changes on a daily basis, but good luck catching a decent faction/pirate BPC on public contracts.

Purely speculation, but if a large portion of demand is in null, could it be due to a hauling cost difference between the hull and BPC (+materials)? |

It isn't.
People just expect to get paid whatever was the going rate. Two hours ago.
Case in point example: Machariel BPCs were selling 290-300 mil p/u a month ago - they were bought out & manipulated higher, along with the hulls, with hull price eventually reaching 620 mil p/u a week ago.
The hulls have since crashed back to 529 mil, with the build cost being around 156 mil ISK.
People still expect to get outdated 375 mil for their BPCs.

If you are willing to haul from Jita to other hubs (or to pay a useful idiot 1-2m to do it for you) you can often make a profitable arbitrage transaction - buy 10x VNI print in Jita, haul to Amarr, build, sell.

Did that with like 25 Machs and 25 Rattle per week. Just buy the BPC on Saturday/Sunday late afternoon in Jita. Haul them on Monday to Amarr, Rens, Dodi buy the minerals there and wait for the next weekend to sell. Profit was ~50m p/u too less for the investment and hassle so i stopped after 1 month.

let x equal the price you can get for the final product, ie rattlesnake or w/e let y equal the total for price of blueprint + full cost of all materials in blueprint manifest + factory manufacturing cost
your profit is x - y
