Hi
I have been wondering if the following would be considered an exploit or not:
Grabb a Cruiser with at least 25m3 Dronebay. Put in one sentry, 4 in cargo. Go somewhere, deploy drone, dock move sentry to donebay, go back where you left the 1st deploy, repeat for all drones. Now scoop and deploy all 5 drones one after another and voila, cruiser with 25m3 dronebay controls 5 sentrys.
Now, i dont think that can't be considered a exploit, because its quite a fuss to setup, and doesnt use any kind of mechanism not perfectly legal by it self.
But, before getting banned, i'd like some input. Has anyone asked a dev/gm about that allready? Heared of any bans because of that? Comments?

Edited by: K8 T on 17/11/2006 10:43:54 I dunno about bannable but its definitely classed as an exploit. I suppose you'll get a warning or two first, then a suspension
Edit: The Imicus back in the good ol' days used to be able to wield 10 heavy drones like this. I once setup a gatecamp with a 10 ogre drone MWD imicus for ****s and giggles and promtly got a GM warning for it, so there.

Thats hardly an exploit dude...
It could as well be a fleet battle where you scoop up drones you find on the field to use them instantly despite your incapable drone bay. Its not like you keep control of the drones after you warp away, that would be an exploit!

It has already been classed as an exploit.
And rightly so.

I'm not going to mention the drone bay of a Domi and a small gang gate camp ...

Edited by: James Lyrus on 17/11/2006 11:42:23 If you are wanting to know if something is a 'sploit or not, then the only people able to give a definitive answer is the GMs.
So, ask 'em.
You'll get one of 3 responses: 1) Exploit, don't do it 2) Bug, but not one we care enough to stomp on you for 3) working as designed, carry on.
The responses you get are recorded, and I consider it extremely unlikely that you'll end up with anything more than being asked to stop if you've already been told "It's ok" should the situation change.
From another point of view, possible exploits are worth getting 'on record' (and ideally bugreported) because ... well wouldn't you rather that people were fighting and winning (or losing) fairly rather than using bugs?
Regardless, the definition of a 'bannable exploit' is: If the GMs say it is, then it is. Everyone on the forums could speak their brains, but that doesn't change this situation. (And TBH this is exactly the way it should be.

Ok, i will ask them, but this makes me think if it wouldnt be nice to have some kind of Database with some kind of Rules clarifications?
I mean from the posts above, there seems some people allready asked it, and somehow it seems kind of wasting GM time, asking the same questions again.

The drone bay sizes directly limit what you can use, working around that increases your power = Exploit.
People should be to be even asking it.
You wouldnt even be thinking to ask this question if you were able to fit extra guns or missile launchers on your ship than you should be able to according to the turret/launcher stats. Why do you think drones are different, its not about how HARD it is to do it, its about the EFFECT it has.

Drone bay size limits what you can carry. You can use five drones on any ship as far as I'm aware.
It's interesting this is considered an exploit tbh. I can understand the argument for and against.

Edited by: Max Hardcase on 18/11/2006 19:26:20 Bahh, I havent seen any reasons for it, other than personal gain. Imagine a interceptor that somehow managed to fit 6 dual 180 AC's. Same thing as using more m3 of drone that you can carry.

I'm pretty sure I saw a Dev say that it was not an exploit since you could not take them with you when you warped away. He said that there is nothing saying you can't control more drones than you ship can carry. (T1 frigates can control 5 FIGHTERS...so why not 5 drones???)
Of course, the official decision may have been changed since then.
Only in ASCN would someone consider the solution to being short an office to be "Drop another Outpost" |

Well are you also saying that since fighters use 5000 m3, that any ship with less than that space shouldn't be allowed to control fighters? A MWDing frig with 5 fighters assigned is a lot worse than a frig with 5 heavies, which can't be done anymore.

Max, the ship isn't using more drones than it should (five). Your argument is a ship using more guns than it should.
Apples and oranges m8. I understand what you're trying to say, my point is, the ship wouldn't be using more drones than its entitled to use, just a different type or more of a different type than it can carry (not use).
The fighters example crossed my mind too tbh.

Ishkur.
And it's more efficient to have a friend in a dominix drop them for you, warp out, and warp back in.

Because to control five fighters you need a carrier in the system, to control five light drones and boost your DPS tremendously you don't need anything but a few warps or docks / undocks.

acording to forum rules you are not allowed to share exploits with people and thus moderators will warn you .
so one very easy way to find aout and the only "Responce" you will get on this forum is wheather or not this thread stays,
if it gets "cleaned" and dissapears theres your answer
if you get no responce then have at it.

So 100mn mwd sleipnir is sploit? What about fighters? It's shady and it requires way too much work to be effective, anyway.
-------- The BoB model is bad for business. Incidently the BoB model is more suited for a game such as WoW where as the ASCN model more suited for Eve.

Edited by: Max Hardcase on 18/11/2006 21:45:27 If he wants to pay an insane amount of PG and CPU to fit an 100mn MWD he's welcome to do it. Thats the reason the Devs added mass to the MWD's/AB's, to discourage the practice.
And for the record drones ARE weapons, the only limitation placed on them is drone volume on the ship you fly. CIRCUMVENTING GAME MECHANICS = EXPLOIT.
And fighters being to assigned to you is as intended, they where designed to be assigned to you by a carrier.
By using a drone volume you cant possibly have in your drone bay you gain power you were not intended to have. ( since you werent given the needed dronebay size to begin with ).
I'd be fine with a Domi lending its drones to another ship, as long as they come from his ACTIVE drone pool. He assigns 5 to you ? Fine, but that means he cant use any other drones. Same way it is as with the carrier.

Untrue. I remember flying an imicus 15m frig and using a med+lt cause I only had drone II. Pralay |

Introduce a maximum drone size launchable limit, "this drone is to large to be activated on launch" type msg. would at least limit a maximum of 5 for the size of ship class, not a total solution but more realistic in the oversizing ballence (like the powergrid warnings for large modules on small ships).

You shouldn't be discussing exploits or possible exploits on the forums. If you have a question about a possible exploit file a petition and the GMs will give you an answer.
