Much like and old lover, the memories of years playing Eve linger..... But have any of you returned after years of not playing and rekindled that old flame, or is it never the same again?
I'm tempted, so very tempted, but what would i do now? Where would i go now? Would i even remember how to undock?
Talk me into it, or if you wish, talk me out of it...........
Tell me how you fell in love with Eve all over again |

A problem with freedom is, what good is it without possibilities? If you're free, but only have one choice...c'mon, man! Even here, you'll see me go off on people. Because I don't like what they do? No. Because they're telling me my possibilities are limited by their presence. "Do like I do. It's the only way."
What keeps me here is just that - the possibilities. That's what gives EVE its distinctive aura. That's its allure. Sure, we're over-ridden with know-it-all dogmatics who know the only way to do this right. And, sometimes we're in danger of our options being suddenly limited by a supposed "correct" way to play.
They never amount to much. They don't stick around long. Some imaginations are just too small for

Glad to see you're back.

I resubbed a few days ago after a year or 2 absence.
Corp is at war and I forget to check local when undocking in my shiny new Svipul. At undock WT in Svipul is waiting. My heart starts beating and my hands start shaking, while I spam the lock button. I lock him up, he's poorly tanked and I blow through is shields and deep into armour in about 3 volleys. The WT warps off...
"WTF!?!?!"
Seems I forgot scrams do not have the 24km range of a T2 disruptor. Queue palm of hand slapping forehead repeatedly.
10/10 Will stay subbed.

If you feel things have changed too much, you cna always roll a new char and run that for a few weeks to get the feel for how stuff has changed.
I left for about a year (stay subbed) becuase the wife and i had our son. so i took a yera off of eve. I checked in a bit, like every few months to set skills, say hi, but diid not stay on long. when i got back into playing, a bunch of crap had changed, but eve is liek riding a bike, after a few hours i remembered how stuff worked.. then one of my buddies said 'hey da, we are remaking an old alliance... want in?' and that was my 10th wind in eve. lol

I came back after an 8 year break. The changes were massive, but it didn't take too long before I was back in the swing of things and I'm having loads of fun now. It's strange being a newbie in a bittervet's body, but you'll get used to it
The best advice I can give is to treat it like a brand new game. Start with the basics and spend some time reading guides/forum posts on areas that interest you.
I did a few of the career agent mission sets and that was enough to get a feel for the UI again. After that, it was just a matter of poking my nose into different things to see what the game had to offer these days.
Remember the cardinal rule: Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. |

The game's in a really good place right now. Just keep in mind that a lot has changed, and you'll be fine.
Pssst: the 24 hour skill queue is dead. Go ahead and pile on every skill you want to train! Just be sure you've already trained the prerequisites first.

Welcome back to Eve OP!
As for Webvan and Don Purple.. you are both hereby placed on notice. I have perma-dibs on stuff, and you both know this. Failure to comply with the unwritten rules of GD will result in probably nothing whatsoever, but it will be a serious nothing... very serious indeed.
Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Re subbed with the 3 month special offer.
Totally lost, but managed to get back to my old home station
Having previously given away all my stuff (so no you can't have it) i was pleasantly surprised to find 2 bil isk still in the corp master wallet. This will be a big help!
This is going to be painful re learning all the interface and everything that's changed; Having started in early 2004, i have not played for around 4 years now....

That was the worst bit for me as well. On the whole; however, I think the game has been aging well. I think the second hardest part about coming back from a long hiatus is integrating into a corp that will treat you like something of a newb rather than holding you to the standard expected of someone with established isk and sp levels. It's a quick road to burn-out throwing in with other consistent vets and having them slag you for not wanting to bring your re-sub your capital alt(s), fly the most expensive ships you can afford right off the bat, and lead around true newbies with whom you might have more in common than the vets themselves.
I don't want to advertise for any groups I've worked with since they've all been a mixed bag, but most of the guns-a-blazing newbie friendly outfits in sov space or w-space seem like a good fit if you don't have an existing connection to an established and well run organization. Recall immediately, if nostalgia has erased the memory, that this game sucks like no other when nobody is around to make content with you. |

So I'd say no break is too long. |

I have had numerous breaks from EVE over the year, but I always end up coming back! Once I get that first kill after returning it all comes flooding back.
But as everyone said, Don't fly what you cant afford to lose!

Welcome back! EVE is special, thats why you knew to come back! Best thing you can do is get in a corp and get to it! Returned players are common and there will be people available to get you back up to speed and get tbat feeling back once again, it is quite common. o7 |

The only time you have been gone too long is when the population is completely diluted by WoW types and the game is complete dumbed down to one attack command and pre-configured ships.

I just recently resubbed after not playing seriously since '11 (and even that was pretty briefly, after quitting in '09). It's so different now that my Nighthawk looks like a Drake instead of a Ferox. LOTS to get used to. |

now that i've looked around for a few days, i found a new basic skill has been added (don't think i missed it before), and that instead of BCs getting an improved role, especially after t3 ships, they were made even less relevant. the 'new' cane, brought a tear to my eye. |
