Read this today on bbc news and not seeing Eve on it made my heart sink

Eve has many unique qualities like being the largest collection of shards to make one universe that players all around the world can interact with each other.
Massive space battles with 1000s of players.
In game protests that make a difference to the design of this game
Feeling that CCP should act on this can get this great game on that list, can you guys think of reasons why this game should be put on this list? |

Well, this was the inaugural year for their Hall of Fame.
At the bottom of the article it says that nominees are being accepted for 2016; so perhaps EVE will make it next year...or the year after that. |

According to the information on the Hall of Fame website, the inductees were chosen because they:
all have significantly affected the video game industry, popular culture, and society in general.
Eve might make it on the first classification, but it doesn't really hit the mark on the second and third criteria there.
Minecraft, which was nominated and didn't make it this year either has arguably had more affect on popular culture and society in general; and even that doesn't measure up beside Pong, Pac-Man, Tetris, Super Mario or Doom. It probably matches WoW, but the judges still didn't choose it.
Maybe in future years for Eve.

I concur here. From what I've seen, played, and heard of EVE, it really is just a niche game. It doesn't have any broad impact on the gaming industry. An enjoyable niche game certainly, but not something as far reaching to have earned a spot in the hall of fame. |

It didn't change anything in the industry. It's unique but nothing was changed by EVE. The gaming community didn't enter a revolution of any kind and the industry didn't change because of it.
You can't affect pop culture with the small user base it currently has.
Same for affecting society.
The titles that made it in the hall of fame all had much bigger impact on the industry, pop culture or society. |

i'm not arguing that wow shouldn't be in the HoF.. I'm just complaining that they were inducted in the FIRST round. When there are a TON of other games that came way before WoW that were more benifical. Don;t get me wrong, i'd of thought it was cool if EVE got in on the first round, but TBH.. it shouldn't.
I mean ****, games like Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Qbert, Sonic, Wolfenstine, Duke Nuke em, fall out, Decent, etc have done more in the relm of pop culture then WoW has.
And WoW only has as huge a pop culture reference as it does cause, as you said, 12m people played it. But in grand impact? No. Another game should of taken that spot.
Its still damn cool we are getting a HoF,
I mean this is like if the WWE hall of fame had put Hulk hogan as its first inductee because he was so popular in the 80's (instead they chose someone who did a lot for the industry and was generally an awesome guy in Andre) it just feels.. weird.

I mean Hell Final Fantasy which basicly laid alot of ground work in populariving video game RPG's, and laid the gorund work for WoW to even exist, should of been in the first round. But meh now i'm splitting hairs

I think Eve would be a long way down any future consideration. Next round if I was picking would probably be:
- Zork - Myst - Donkey Kong - Final Fantasy - Tekken - Minecraft
Eve nowhere to be seen for at least a couple more years yet.

Very interesting points, I've enjoyed reading you views.
For me I feel Final Fantasy or Fallout, even Half Life or Battlefield crying out loud Space Invaders should have made this list over WoW.
Pop-culture for Eve will always be hard but I love that! This is after all a mature game in my view, I enjoy hanging around with my peer group, scheming, planning and killing you ;). You'll never hear about WoW having 100's of gold stolen from someone, I believe that breaks WoW 'TOS'.
The Sandbox idea the Eve runs with I find very unique, again not ground breaking but the game model with the 'TOS' I do find to be so. I believe strongly this has kept Eve going for as long as it has. Maybe I'm wrong or have missed the point, interested to see what you think? |

I have never played WoW. And never will. That hall of fame is a joke.
Also, I don't understand who died and made these people hall of fame molders.

1. Fallout 2. Fallout 2 3. Wing Commander Prophercy 4. Baldur's gate 5. Diablo 2

It's actually true. The other day my brother visited without warning and walked in on me while I was doing w-space exploration.
He glanced at my screen that was filled up with maps, probe scanner interface, D-scan, overview and a million other stuff.
And he was like: "What's all that stuff?"
And I didn't even know how to respond. It took me days to learn what that stuff is, so how could I ever hope to explain it to someone in a few sentences?
Donkey Kong on the other hand: "Arcade game with a big ape in which you have to jump over stuff..."
WoW: "Fantasy MMORPG in which you run around and club, slice, and stab things to death...with friends."
But that's what I like about EVE. It cannot be deduced to a sentence, or even a paragraph. You would need a freaking 500 word essay in the very least.

My reason to be so blas+¬ about it. well, because i didn't choose the list.. So its not my "Hall of Fame" in my opinion. Like many other gamers.
I've been a active gamer since the 80's, so i think my opinion counts
EVEBoard ...Just over 20million skill points, each skill was chosen for a reason. I closed my eyes & clicked another skill to train... "BINGO...!!!" ... "This time i got something usefull"
