Edited by: Oldgiffer on 20/11/2006 21:27:59 I thought Id do a guide to sec fixing for someone thinking of taking up piracy. There may be one already but I hope this one helps people who havent seen one before. Im just going to state how it currently works and not give my opinions on whether it is a good or bad system to avoid any flaming.
Currently the sec gain system works in 10 minute intervals. Meaning that if you shoot an npc you get a sec gain 10 minutes after its death. You get a gain for the first npc of the highest class of npc you shoot and will get your sec gain 10 minutes after it is killed.
Realistically the highest sec gain you will get per 10 minutes is 0.25%. This is shooting the highest bounty BS of each faction you find in 0.0. Chaining these BS constantly it would take you approximately 40 hours of solid npcing to fix your sec from -10 to -2.
The actual amount of time it takes will probably be far greater than this, as it often takes a long time to find a high end npc spawn to chain and the 10 minute intervals are often nearer 15mins since its very hard to kill the next npc the second you get a sec gain. You will also most likely be regularly interupted while sec fixing so allow a lot of extra time if you plan on fixing your sec from -10.
So to sum up you can gain approx 0.2 actual sec status per hour of npcing if you find a spawn that gives 0.23-0.25% sec gain every 10 minutes. Also sec loss does not follow this 10 minute pattern. You take every hit so a moment of weakness can drop you right back to the start of this road to fixed sec status.
Consider this very carefully before you take your character into piracy as it can be a long time to fix what you do.

im not sure it works like this cos its a %age u go from -10 to -5 a lot faster than u go from -5 to 0 (i think)
can somone confirm this plz. when i went to 0.0 i went from -2.0 to 0 quite fast cant see it taking me longer than a few weekends to go from -10 to -1.8tbh if a spam the spawns.
also i may be wrong but if u switch systems do u get a raise faster. ie. kill one npc then jump through to another and kill another npc to get 2 sec raises? inside the 10-20min limit?

It works right and that is how it works
You have to realise that it's a percentage of the difference between 0 and -10 or +10 as in for example if you are 0.0 and you have a 10% sec loss u got to -1, but if ur -5 and get a 10% loss u only got to -5.5 so u essentially lose half the amount.
or at least that's how i believe it works

Edited by: Oldgiffer on 21/11/2006 18:55:39 Yes your sec gain is faster from -10 to -5 than -5 to -2 because it is a percentage gain. It slows as you approach a sec staus of 0. As I said it will take approxinately 40 hours to go from -10 to -2 but this is largly dependant on the spawns you get and how efficiently you chain them. Sec loss is the exact opposite.
You used to get seperate sec hits for complex npcs and belt npcs so you could get double the sec gains. This may have been fixed but I havent tested it recently. Being in a complex system brings its own probelms with people interupting your sec fixing. |

Sometimes it goes past 30 minutes before you get a sec boost.

no it doesn't. if you wait until you have a sec boost before u kill the next rat then u will get the boost 10 or 11 minutes after. ppl usually say this when they have popped the rat before they got the previous boost and u only get 1 for both so seems like u don't get it. it's possible i'm wrong but in all my ratting recently in different 0.0 regions my sec boosts have been like clockwork.

I don't know if there's a problem with the timing, but my experience of continually ratting for several hours has left gaps between sec boosts of between 10 and 35 minutes. Having it regular would be very nice though.

I always check my Security Status tab in the char info for the upfdate to show before I kill the next BS. Works like clockwork as described above.
