I hate the ipod with a passion.
You're brainwashed then roped and chained down to stupid itunes, having your paid tracks converted to a format you can't use on other mp3s players. If you're buying tracks off itunes you're probably very new to the net or extremely paranoid.
Old people and mundane business suits even use ipods...not cool man, not anymore. I'd be embarrassed to have one now. If you have an ipod the chances are you are just another victim of grade A marketing.
I actually did some research, (some very serious research) and found the Creative Zen: M kicking the living crap out of the ipod and ipod video. There are hundreds of mp3 players like this that put ipod in its place but they are not heavily marketed so no one ever knows.
So while you think you're cool with your little fashion accessory ipod just remember that theres much better out there.
Death to ipods!!!!

Ipod design also lacks of proper construction. After the summer, the sodder connecting the battery connector thingy to the motherboard broke loose.
I broke open my ipod and had to resoder it, but in the process burned this black plastic square thingy, which in consequence disabled the ability to use the headphone jack

Agree, this Ipod craze has gone on for too long, everyone seems to be attracted to this mac look. I really dont hate the mac computer look, put this product I hate. Then Bill gates came with something similar wich was bugged beyond everything. But I've heard interesting things about the creative Zen player and I've heard it's alot cheaper is that true ?

Honestly, the iPod is the best jukebox on the market. It has the best interface, and it looks cool. The competition doesn't match up in that respect.
Every time I hear people going "omg the Zen is better", they are almost all Creative fanboys or Mac-haters, or people who haven't used both and are just guessing (or working on opinions heard from people in the first two groups).
Unfortunately, iPods require that you install iTunes, and I wouldn't do that if you paid me. It's such a shame that a great product like the iPod gets ruined that way. My music collection is stored in 64kb/s MP3, I like it that way, and it's staying that way. I play it in WinAmp, and it's staying that way. If I want to buy music, I'll go out and buy a CD, **** you.

I hate ipods, good adverts though... i have used ipods many a time few ppl in my family own them as do my freinds... i own a creatie microphoto... use dot have a zen sleek... loved tem both.. much superior to Ipods belive me... im not a fanboy or anything... alls apple do it copy creative ideas and make things smaller...
i trust my mp3's to a company that is almost entirely devoted to prodcing sounds products, and is known for the excellent quality of those.. rather than a company tht makes gimmicky non-pc's out of 70s plastic...
ok ok that was harsh, i dont hate mods.. as an apology the mod who shows the most wuv gets a free mercedes...

iRiver FTW! If the iPod looks good is a matter of opinion. That it's completely inferior in terms of specs to a lot of other players on the market is plain fact. But hey, that's what you get with every apple product. If you like their design you'll get the best design but an at best average product. If you don't like their design you get an average product without anything to make up for it. Just don't go and pretend that there's anything iPods can do better than other players besides look good.

A few annoying quirks, but not nearly as many as every other one I've tried. And it looks sexy. If you say that doesn't matter, it's because you're ugly.

I buy my music from itunes cos I'm too lazy to shop around online. But none the less if people would like to eve mail me and provide their email addresses to them I will forward you a letter of complaint to the Office of Fair trade (UK) and the European Commission of Business Competition (or something like that I need to check that name still) about how Itunes DR management actually only promotes a monopoly of their product under the guise of protecting copyright law. --------------

Lots of people complain about the ipods durability. Even small bumps and knocks will break it. It may look good but its durability is perhaps the worse on the market for its price. Friend of mine dropped his iriver clix on carpet and it had nothing more than a very small dent.
Drop an ipod from even 1 foot onto carpet and it will break.

Haha, yeah. Like I'm going to spend hundreds of pounds on sparkly gadgets so I can be robbed for them anyway - and/or apparently - have them break when I fart.
My Sony Ericsson K750i is my digital camera, mp3 player, PDA, and video recorder. I think it can even make phone calls. What do you want me to be frickin robocop walking around the streets covered in wires for a million different devices!?
Although my phone does not unfold to produce an automatic machine pistol. New one does though I think. -omg-

I have an iRiver H340 jukebox...40gigs space and plays most formats, including all the ones I want. It has basic video capability, great sound and battery life, and I think was a great purchase. Saying that, I envy the video capabilities of most current players, but can't stand the idea of having to use iTunes. The iRiver just pops up in Windows Explorer and you can drag and drop anything you like, like a portable hard drive.
What I'd really like is something which can play MPEG1/2/4, XVid, DivX mainly (WMV, Quicktime, etc a bonus) and MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV files. Sadly I don't think one exists. Oh and more than 40gb space too. -------------

The best way to get around it is to simply burn the music from itunes to cd. stick it in your cd player and record to your mp3/minidisk player. At least works for me that way anyway course I have to name everything but I do that anyway with cds etc. --------------

Im sorry but I have to disagree with all the naysayers. Ive tried Creative (Nomad II MG), iAudio 5 and I'm currently on an Ipod Nano 1G. I have to say its the most user friendly out of all the mp3 players I've ever had. Ive easily dropped mine over 20-30 times onto a solid concrete floor 2-3 ft and its totally unscratched, buying a good case is key to its survival.
In terms of software, iTunes is FAR FAR FAR less bloated than the Creative Mediasource. Creative software is so bloated (see their soundcards) that its almost criminal. Yes iTunes is a hassle at times, but on a college campus, its installed everywhere even on university PCs. In terms of hassle of transferring songs, Cowon required no software at all. User interface wise however it is iPod > Nomad > Cowon. Especially for navigating through large libraries.
The proprietary renaming of songs to try and obfuscate users from copying them straight off is 1 thing they should change, but all in all it isnt a big deal. ---------------------------------------- Back for a month cus Awu5 finished..... |
