Edited by: Adam C on 23/11/2006 05:15:46 whats the deal with it
- graphical lag - pointless cause it aint seemless - silly
the idea of seemless is for the transitions to be quick (ie 1sec or less) or non-existant it aint so thus far...

The map transition WOULD be seemless if the client loaded the data/graphics BEFORE trying to smoothly explode outwards. I mean, there used to be a little "Loading" message for the old map, where'd that go?

You can set it to instant transition too if you want speed. ----- Boyakasha! |

Yes, my fps's dropped also because of the map. Is there away to make the stars go away? Even after i close it in space, the the other solar systems can bee seen, wich is annoying and bad for my fps. Please don't tell me this is how it will hit TQ tomorrow...

I think that is the problem though, it shows you the **** solar system while your flying about. = not good for fps. I yea it probably will hit TQ like that :(

FPS issues are a particular glitch with windowed mode and recent builds by the looks of it. Had 1.5-2x the FPS of TQ before the build that introduce the proper Hyperion model.
So anyway, it's not seemless map related (or highly unlikely).

The seamless map is pretty much as advertised. There is a setting for the speed of the transition. I think it's there to cater to varying tastes. I agree though with having all the starry universe floating around you is not a good thing.
Someday many of us hope that CCP will finally let us, the players, decide on certain level of details that we may or may not want. In some cases it's actually that we can or can not reasonable render on our machines.
Additionally some of us suffer from physical ailments/defects that make it so that various graphical choices by CCP that we would expect to be "optional" are problematic for us. In my case it is vision. I'm diabetic and my vision has suffered(ing) from nueropathy associated with the condition. Bright lights, usually generated by the sun but also by the white clouds in mission areas, are not quite painful... but close.
Un-hijacking the thread: Currently there is one part of the seamless transition that is very awkward. There is still this major white flash when the map is loading onto the client. It happens when jumping into a system or the first time you are loading up the client. (I can only assume it is the map palette initiating.)
