So I'm getting alts to do PI, but I know very little about it. Does anyone have some basic tips and tricks for the beginning PI-entrepreneur?
Which materials give best ISK/hr value? Which materials don't have weird pricedrops?
Mainly looking for info about Gas and Barren planet-materials. (it's what I have easy access to)

My 2 cents would be to look at everything needed for fuel blocks, like coolant (gas), and mechanical parts (barren).

Typically I recommend for hisec: * Extraction: water and oxygen are decent, but avoid Ionic Solutions like the plague (very low yield). * Factory Planets: don't extract anything, just build stuff, but beware of import & export costs (= spreadsheet).. |

Watch out for gas planets. They're huge, so you lose a lot of CPU and PG in the long links necessary. |

If you have anymore questions feel free to hit me up ingame with any questions you have, I've taught a few people to do PI and from what I've heard they are making a lot of money with little to no effort with it.

Not trying to put you off but we always found it quite time intensive although we always did 24 hour cycles. We still have setups with decent tax rates but haven't done PI for quite a while. You often see vast sums of profit quoted to do with PI but quite often these figure have to be taken with a large quantity of salt. In short they are exaggerating.

this.

Guess I could ask this here. Which things have effect on the cpu/power consumption and/or supply in planets?
I have x different planets I use for extraction and manufacturing higher tier PI-products. Each of them has a similar setup of...
- command centers are at the maximum level I can achieve with level 4 command center upgrades - 2 extractors - 4 storages - 2 lower tier manufacturing plants (at work, sorry but I can't check the real names in game) - 1 advanced manufacturing plant - 1 launch pad - shortest possible links between all these
extractor -> storage -> factory -> storage -\ \ extractor -> storage -> factory -> storage ----> advanced factory -> launch pad
Normally for both extractors I can use 5 extractor heads until I'm out of CPU/PG. In some planets I can get 6th extractor head in either one of the extractors. However there is one planet where I can only get 4 and 5 heads in the extractors so the command center cannot supply even the 5+5. I spent quite a while trying to figure out what causes this but I couldn't find the answer.
I've thought that the 5+6 heads vs 5+5 was just about the cpu/pg being so close that small differences between the link lengths would have caused that but since I've tried to keep the link lenghts minimal I can't believe that they would cause this big difference that on some planets I can get only 9 extractor heads when in some I get 11. |

Raoul Halberg - Two things. 1. You probably do not need 4 storage bay unless you are always filling the first set up. You might be wasting pwg/cpu. 2. To answer you real question, the planet size is factored into the size of the links, which use up cpu and pwg. The buildings, links, and other graphics don't change with planet size so things can be quite misleading. In the planet's show info screen you should be able to see the radius of the planet, the larger it is the more cpu/pwg the links will use.
Hope that helps out, KL |

Thank you for the answer. I'll check the planet sizes when I get home. I was suspecting that the planet size might have something to do with it but I expected that the fully zoomed in view would give equal distances on all planets.
Is there any benefits in bigger planets over smaller ones or is it just so that smaller planets are better for PI because of slightly cheaper links? |

Let me guess, the one you can't is a gas planet?
