Just saw this while i was lookign fo rWii prices, used to use lik-sang quite a bit, by looks of it i fu buy import PS3's from anywehre then sony will be gettign all mardy with y'all.
if they do it to Lik-Sang then why not eBay/importmadness ect? They are basically reducing peopels right to buy a product from other countries if they wish and using BS like the compatability problems to get thei way. If peopel are informed that UK Bluray wont work on a NON UK console and that they understand that then who are sony to say who and who cant buy machins from where they wish.

If they do it to a company, like, Lik-Sang then why not eBay, Importmadness or similar internet trading companies? They are basically reducing people's right to buy a product from other countries if they wish and using excuses like the compatability problems to get the way. almsot right but i've never buyed anythign from L-S, i just used to use it for pricing and to see what import release dates.
its a bit stupid how they put an order in to stop them from selling import machines to uk/europe when everyone else is doign it, wether it be high street independant stores (who get it from import wholesale) so what else is to stop them from complaining to eBay that they dont want PS3's beign auctioned otherwise they will take action. hell there was even details released that gaming companies (sony/microsoft) that wanted a ban on 2nd hand/pre-owned sales of games, basically u buy a game and they can press charges if u sold it to ur mate.

Although we might not think it's fair, many people do not realise that there are importation laws in effect on such consoles (hey, not my idea, blame the government (all of them)) Although it's a great idea to buy ps3's, wii's, xbox 360's and ZX Spectrum's off ebay, many people overlook these importation laws which, apparently, protect the consumer.
I think this is the main reason Sony wanted so shut Lik-Sang down, I suspsect it is also to protect themselves from being sued by angry customers if something goes wrong with an imported console.
I`m going to miss lik-sang, i got a lot of groovy gadgets from them ___________________________ ~Jiekon

yeah i think its like people video taping/recording CD's to tapes/off radio ect, in that everyone does it but if u look into it, it is classed as beign illegal. many moons ago sony i believe tried to ban video recorders from beign able to record as well as cassette (yes that long ago) from recording in order to stop peopel recordign from radio, their songs. also recording from TV like BBC in uk ect is supposed to be illegal sinc eu pay for the shows ur not supposed to supply them to sumone who may not pay their TV license.
Even tho the implications that imported gear may/will not work i've always had imported machines in my older videogaming years since i understand the complications of them.
Lik-Sang could have ceased to sell all/any sony equipment and i'm sure that would have put yet another bullet in sony's foot in the PS3 vs Wii battle thats ragign on.
all in all sony are doing a good job at keeping up the free publicity yet not doign much about the fact they have F-cked over plenty european gamers in the PS3's delay (not that i mind since i belivee Ps3 to be the weakest next gen console at present)

This is the first I've heard about it, and I must say I think it's not only wrong and unjust, it's also amazing that a) Sony would see fit to do such a thing and b) that the UK courts decided in their favour (why UK when Lik Sang is in Hong Kong and Sony are Japanese is beyond me!). It's a typical case of the big fish flexing their corporate muscles to get their way, and amazing that they were able to do it on such shakey footing.
I understand entirely the incompatibility issues faced by a consumer when buying any electrical or electronic items from abroad, and also that there are UK/EU laws in place to govern the safety and compliance of those items, but there is no difference in most hardware devices beyond PSUs (with a handful of exceptions) and only real difference in such things as movies and games consoles, is the NTSC/PAL/SECAM divide, which most modern devices can cope with perfectly well.
My Sony PSP is from the USA, and I've got quite a handful of region 1 DVDs despite living in the UK. As a consumer it's up to me what I spend my money on, and if I can buy the same thing cheaper abroad then that's exactly what I'm going to do. I think when Tesco Jersey started trading online the UK government got quite antsy and started *****ing down on other Jersey firms like Play.com for this very same reason. Perhaps Lik Sang did break a law, perhaps they were operating on a scale that was actually detrimental to Sony's planned launch of their (horrendously overpriced) product (which I wouldn't touch with a 20' barge pole), but I doubt both of those scenarios. I think it's just a case of Sony being upset that consumers weren't playing by their rules, and they put the blame on any and all importers citing stupid, common-sensical things as law...and some stupid British judge ruled in their favour. Maybe we could put up a bounty for him...I'll chip in 100m ISK for that! -------------

quite right mate, it even states that they have several confiremd and billed orders from Sony chiefs in their database too so its just a case that peopel are getting goods cheaper and earlier thatn they want. its a big megalomanicle (or whatever the term maybe) of sony. they are trying to restrict peopel purchases of their goods. i for one will buy imported goods when i choose, if a movie is soooo good i want it on R1 i will order it from paly.com/cdwow.com ect. i had Snes games on import and my Cube was imported, my Wii is gonna be UK because modern technology is making it more expensive and costly to get imported machines but i belive that if someone wishes to pay ú1500 for a PS3 and ú100 per game (estimated prices) then i belive that they can blow their cahs if they wish. if sony are losing out then thats their problem for screwing the european games over by comign up with a load of crp about not enuff machines. well we know its just to build up anticiptaion but from the looks of it, it is gonna backfire since Wii will own xmas 06

This seems like a good place to ask why there are different regions on VHS/DVD. Just what is the point of limiting these media to certain groups. Why can't I buy a DVD in Europe and play it on my player in America?
Certain groups whom I will not name because it's edited automatically, have done away with regions entirely. So why even bother?

DVDs are region coded for greed reasons only, however several companies make region free DVD players because no law protects the region code(well the US DMCA might but im not counting it since its a law i have trouble breaking for personal use).

*Boycotts Sony*
Tbh, Sony has gone downhill since PSOne was released. They're power mad, Nintendo has wiped the floor with Sony in a matter of days... Why? Because they give a **** about their customers...
