One thing i have found missing from EVE is a good way to get information from outside the 14 AU limit of the D-Scan and to get any information from the next system. Both of these can be "solved" by using a scout alt or similar, but that is not always an option. What i suggest is an alternative that does have a cost penalty and does not give same amount of information, but can be used by nearly any character.
Suggestion 1: Remote Core/Combat Probe Launched through WH and/or Stargates *Requires Corresponding Launcher to be fitted to the ship. *After jumping the probe do not get gate cloaked. *After sitting in space for 10-20 seconds it returns celestials, system name and what your overview would pickup within 20km. *Ship and alike that don't show on d-scan would not be returned. *During preparation time it can be targeted and destroyed. *After sending information it self-destructs. *Probe shows up on the overview and d-scan like normal, *Industry cost of a singel probe could be in the range of 20-50k isk for tech 1
Suggestion 2: Scout Drone Requires Skill [Scout Drone] (Increases D-Scan pulses by 1 per skill level) Drone Equipped with a single charge Warp drive(follows same bubble mechanics as any ship) and micro d-scan (only 1au range), No combat capabilities 5m3, 5Mb Bandwidth Simply Order the drone to warp to a selected location, After it lands on the location it waits for 10-15 seconds and then starts to makes X amount of pulses (depending on skill level) with 30 sec intervals. Any information found is updated on the owners d-scan. After the drone have done its pulses it self-destructs (it will show up on overview like any other drone on the target location). Same rules as a regular d-scan with ships invisible to d-scan etc. no ranges would show, eg you can't tell if a ship is 1km or 1au from the gate. Ideal usage is when the stargate is outside the d-scan range of any other celestial. Industry cost should be about the same as a light drone.
Both of these are simple draft's on how they could work, ive tried to limit how they work to limit the ramifications they would have on pvp. Both the probe and drone can easily be destroyed to prevent any information and with the probe its easy to sit 25km away from WH entrance and the "intruder" would be non the wiser about the coming danger. Given that the drone would return a d-scan pulse after it exits warp it would not show any difference if it was caught by a warp bubble or if it landed on the correct location. |

That. Seriously, a decent cov-ops alt will be trained in 2-3 months (and that's rly good skills actually), will give DScan and visual recon, could be moved anywhere, and do it stealthily, with the ability to fit a point, (covert) cyno, combat probes, for a total cost of something around 50-60M, and that is INCLUDING skillbooks.
What's the use of DScan, actually? Looking out for people. Either to catch or to avoid them. Your propositions would just give incomplete feedback to the pilot, even worse than what is currently achievable, and as such should be considered a bad idea.
In case of ponies, keep calm and start running.

I thought they were recon cruisers? Covert ops has always sounded more cloak and dagger to me... Where as recon litterally exist to do reconnaissance |

So you want to be able to scout with 0% risk of being caught/killed/podded?
