A friend was farming combat sites in highsec and one of the sites escalated to a DED5 in low sec.So we decided to go get it together since our accounts are only 2 months old and cant solo them yet, be it our knowledge or our skills.
So we bring our Gilas, trusting that we already completed another escalated DED5 in highsec fairly easily together, and we know escalated ones cant be probed down.So eyes on D-scan all the time for combat probes that can pin down our ships' locations.Luckily local has only a few players. We started to clear it.On the last pocket my friend had to warp out due to incoming dps.He warps to a random planet, shields up and warps back to the gate again. And another gila sits on the gate? And we had to engage and had to run afterwards due to incoming Armegeddon to help.We were totally pve fit anyway. And they finished and looted the site.
Soo, no combat probes were out at all in the system, this is an escalated DED so it cant be probed down also.Question is how come they found the gate entrance to the DED.Are there any other ways beside combat probing down us?The same DED sites can escalate for more than 1 player? We are fairly new to those things so some suggestions and tips about those kind of situations we might encounter in low/null sec would be helpfull. Thanks in advance. |

They probed you down (combat probes). Experienced people can probe you down with the probes only visible for a few seconds. |

Just because you didn't see any probes on dscan, doesn't mean there were none.
They could have deployed combat probes off your dscan (in a 'deep' safe for instance). With good narrowing down of your positions with dscan it takes one probe cycle to scan your location and with that you might not have seen the probes on scan in the narrow time window. |

Thanks for the heads up, that explains it.
Is it also true(just want to be sure) that escalations are unique to the person who finds/gets them, and none other can get the same one in any way? |

They can't be scan probed down as though they were a traditional anomaly, if that's what you mean.
In other words, it is impossible for a would-be hunter to simply bookmark any existing escalations in his area to check later when you arrive to run them. What he will have to do is use combat probes to provide a warp-in. As mentioned, there's a great deal that can be accomplished in this area of target location by skillful pilots.
If you want to know more about how to avoid what is traditionally referred to as "uninvited proctology," you might seek out Google's search results on combat probing guides. There are several good ones from a few years in the past that are still 99% accurate. |

Would like to add that all wrecks and cans also show up on D-Scan.
Those could have been used to pin point the entrance. That's why I always do the 'Scorched Earth' policy. After destroying a couple of ships, I destroy their wrecks asap and check all dropped cans, then quickly destroy those as well before continuing. I repeat that until I have the room completed.
Another thing to remember is the Acceleration Gate catapults you for a specific distance. Take note of the first Acceleration Gate range into the complex and set D-Scan range a little over that. After clearing the first room, note the range on the 2nd Acceleration Gate to the 2nd room and add that to the range for the 1st room. Keep doing that as you progress further into the complex, that way you always have an eye on any ships landing on grid with the first Acceleration Gate.
Course definitely have cloak with safe spots set up.
Hope this helps.

Mobility within sites is something of considerable value as well. Ships coming through an acceleration gate will always land around the same spot (and in most sites CCP puts a beacon there for you!). So do your self a favour and always put distance between you and that beacon. That way if something lands in your complex you can wave at them as you warp off (because you were too far away to point).
But of course, my first rule is, always have eyes on your acceleration gate entrance. Don't just trust D-scan. You will miss some things, and it won't show certain recon ships. |

DMC All good advice, some people don't know about the D-scan and acceleration gate trick or that it works because anyone entering the site has to come through the gate.
Drones also show up on D-scan and can make it easier to find you with probes.
Civilized behaviour is knowing that violence is barbaric, but paying other people to do it is business.
