Greetings eve, this is my first post and I hope you take a liking to my idea.
Now before I posted this I did speak to ccp who told me this is the best way if liked by enough people, to bring back items no longer in game.
1.) Space mines aka Python mines, now for the players who played long enough to remember these little fun buggers know that they are legacy items and no longer used in game.
what if we bring them back into the fold many people who are in wh space and an null sec may find uses again from these items. how many times have you found yourself sitting watching a wh when it fires and the bugger sits there or just cloaks up and warps off.
but we all know that if a cloaked ship gets with in 2000m they will de cloak. now we all can just jet can trash wait for the cool down timer and then jet another one over and over and over and oh 2 hours is gone by and the cans with it to got to do it again.
now with the mines re implemented back into the fold worm hole defense. with all the changes happening to sov an wh being the fresh frontier defense is key to holding a home to where ever you all call home.
even a nice destroyer with a targeted mine grid laying pattern would be nice the ships are suppose to have AI no, but I digress. my main point is lets bring back the mines to eve and step up the war and defense line again

I think applying damage to a ship without being logged in is totally balanced and beneficial to the game. |

Mines create lag, they are a cheap non-sequential way of creating damage, it's just lame all over.
Maybe if a player drops mines and leaves the grid they vanish after 1 minute it could be fine, limited to 5 mines per ships deployed with a range of 5-10km blast, all 5 mines togethere do as much damage as 50% of a bomb to keep it balance and then... yeah no point.
Also sentries now act as the new mines, kinda. Good enough to get the job done. |

great point about the sentry drones but again sentries sit next to you an you don't have the coverage you could get around a point like mines could and once you leave grid what do you drones do but go off line
this would be a way to nut the cloaks on wh jumpers |

What about giving interdictors the ability to drop short duration mines with their interdiction launchers?

AOE is expensive.
AOE triggers are more expensive, as you effectively have each mine dscanning ever activation period. Which isn't a cheap operation.

I suspect a similar effect could be achieved using a cloaked Bombaddon. Wait till targets fly near to you, decloak: SURPRISE!!! You've been mined! No targeting delay as SBs aren't targetted - instant satisfaction.

and again how are sentries like mines, even if you did non damage mines and did something like prox mines to know when a wh flashes or just items to nullify cloaking would be beneficial vs just sentry drones which continue to be nerfed |

Then I can undock in Jita off load the mines on the undock and quickly dockup again like I used to do. The station would spit people right into them. Ahh those were fun times. I miss doing that. |

I like the idea of mines , but in totally different form.
1. They need to be only usable if player is online. - if player logout , then mines disarm them self and start to decay ~ 15minutes and they implode without doing any damage. 2. Dedicated launcher for mine deployment 3. Triggered only by cruiser and bigger ships, damage scaled on ship signature , 100% damage to capital ships 4. Cannot be deployed close to gates ( less than 50km )
Capital Remote AID Rebalance
Way to solve important nullsec issue. CSM members do your work.

Why everyone look at mines like "AoE damage when you get close"?
With all the machanics in the game, you can do a lot of different scenarios. Mines that trigger and transform in to interdiction bubble for example. Mine that lets say disable your warp drive for 10seconds? Mine that when explodes, drain your cap?
Lets make them sec status 0.3 and below for example. Online or offline, no difference if you make them not a lethal weapon, but a support. Maybe make them Dscan immune for example, but you can see them on grid? So when you go to the gate, you must manually move arround them or get assploded.
Make them hard to use and so on. It could have a lot of possibilities. As long as it is not a straight AOE damage that can be stacked in one place, it wont be overpowered. |

When they remove something from the game, it's usually for good reason. Do you even know why they were removed? If you do, make the case for why that reason isn't valid anymore.
That aside, the purpose of mines was never to allow you to carebear in peace in your wormhole with less effort. |

I do recall them saying it was due to the lag problem. I'm not saying I'm against the use of mines, but likely the limitation is still there so not something that may return in it's previous form. I could see use for it as a POS defense though. In some limited forms for sov space. Maybe in low sec FW systems, more so in plexes, in a limited use model. Outside of that, probably that lag monster would generate grief as it once did. |

You've never jumped into a system where there's a 'mining op' have you?
Hows 200 bubbles on a gate any less expensive? :P

Repeat as needed until you get the coverage you want.
