So, I have a pretty hardcore fascination with New Eden and it's lore. The scope of it all is... incredible, to say the least. While I don't have many amazing tales to tell from in-game, I do have some pretty fascinating stories to tell about how Eve Online has affected my life. Here is one of them.
A few years ago I worked at a tattoo shop and on a very slow Thursday I decided to sit down and draw something up out of boredom. One of the other artists was bored as well. So bored, in fact, that we decided to make this 'flesh out' this concept. I posted it on the Dust 514 forums and CCP Falcon took notice and made me a deal. If I went to Fanfest, I'd get some sweet memorabilia.
It was the first time and to date the only time I ever went to Fanfest. But I came out of it with a bunch of fantastic experiences. Like The Gullfoss Waterfall. The final construction of the Monument day before unveiling. Meeting the CEO of CCP and CSM/CPM Hans Jagerblitzen (who I became super good friends with). Eve-centric haircuts. And CCP Guard putting the [media] moves on the ladies. I also collected CCP Falcon's end of the deal we made.
So that experience was awesome and it inspired me to think about another tattoo design. I sat down and slaved over this - I wanted something that put out a message of what Eve Online was in more than just illustration, but I didn't want it to be too long. "Eve Is Real" came to mind but, kind of hard to put that on a banner....
I commissioned Johnny Segura, a local artist where I live with an extraordinary penchant for comic book style art (which is good because tattoos look awesome in that style). We worked together to create the overall concept, feel, and theme of what the tattoo was going to present while I was still working out the kinks with the message I wanted to send. I wanted something like the tattoos soldiers get to commemorate their time. The final result was fairly awesome and we experimented with a -lot- of color schemes.
As you can probably see, in the banner, I found the message I was looking for.
I still have an affinity for Gallentean lore, and Gallente ships are primarily given names of Greek mythology figures. So the message was clear to me:
Quote:And when Philip wrote thus to the Spartans: If once I enter into your territories, I will destroy ye all, never to rise again; they answered him with the single word: GÇÿ+¦ß+¦+¦+¦' (GÇ£IfGÇ¥).
It was a pretty vague but incredibly powerful statement to me. "If" I went to Fanfest in 2013, I'd get some memorabilia from a dev. "If" The Mittani hadn't sent his regards. "If" the Goonswarm Titan pilot never accidentally hit 'Jump' "If" H A V O C had payed the sovereignty bill.
I still haven't gotten the tattoo on my skin yet... but If I do...

This was pretty cool! +1 from me
TBH I always thought about getting the Caldari State logo tattooed on me somewhere, like on my forearm or shoulder. It looks really cool and at the same time Caldari are my favorite race in terms of their lore, ship design and aesthetics. Also, my own RL political leanings, something a long the lines of a Meritocratic Social-Darwinist and a Technocrat, are a lot like the State's. |

I saw this pic a while ago of a dude that got the classic Wreck icon tattoo on his arm. Was awesome.
Now ccp changed the iconic-wreck icon to some new terrible icon.
No ever will get that tattooed on their arm.
Whats that tell ya ccp? |

I haven't played Eve with any amount of dedication since Dust 514 came out. Can you show a before and after?

Before & After.
Alternatively here's the full list of icons; wrecks are in the the bottom right corner, and zKillboard has an old wreck symbol as their icon. |
