CCP, how do u plan to delete the gtg bookmarks? do u delete automaticly the bookmarks with adding the patch, or should we delete the booksmarks by ourself after patching? or will ALL BMs deleted while patching?

as i understand, using the BMs causes the lag, a player that never opens his address book does not cause lag?
if so, then i suspect most active players will be only too happy to delete their bookmarks to make things better for them.
why do they actually need to delete the bookmarks? instead just let the players do it themselves?

Pilots with multik BM lists had huge login times on SiSi some time ago. This might have been a problem on the server hardware, or on a change in the client or the network part.
Upon opening their P&P, the client basically crashed. --*=*=*--

It's been suggested that there will be a cap on the number of BMs you can have; I suspect if this is implemented you may find your BMs simply don't work until you get below the cap.

For one thing, jumping into a new system will sort through ALL your bookmarks (by solar system, which should be an index, so it's fast) in order to add all in-system BMs to your right-click menu.
For a fleet of 200 with each 20k BMs jumping into a system this could still cause a bit of lag server-side, and will add a few hundred bytes of data to have to be sent to each pilot.
As I'm reading the patch notes, no bookmarks will be automatically deleted for the time being.
I guess if there's a good reason for it, say a database overflow or causing excessive lag in fleet battle (either of which I wouldn't expect to happen soon), then maybe there could be an automatic script to remove BMs within 15kms of gates or stations.
But as you said, it's probably in your own interest to delete them on your own to reduce your own lag. --

By doing it on a server with more than half a dozen nodes (ie, not SiSi)?

Actually, I got the idea that gate to gate bookmarks will be deleted on login. Since there was a message asking us to delete the bm's ourselves in advance, to, among other things, reduce lag while logging in. I would imagine running a script to remove ALL gate to gate bm's in-game would take too many resources and longer then they can accomodate in the daily downtime, so they are spreading the load doing it on login which makes sense.
So, I'm removing all my gate to gate bm's, except the ones i need on a daily basis since I don't want to get into problems if CCP decides to bump the bm change to another patch.

Since everything is on a ramsan, I think that's plenty of time for a normal SQL delete.

From the patch notes:
'Warp to 0 km' will be added as an option to the 'Warp' menu. This is being done in conjunction with the deletion of 'Instajump' bookmarks, a major contributor to database and game lag. It is highly recommended for players to delete their instajump bookmarks before the Revelations deployment. This action will improve client performance and decrease log-in times. Note: Normal bookmarks will not be affected by this change.
This very much suggests to me that insta BMs will be auto-deleted at first login after patch. .

Based on the patch notes Im pretty sure it will be at initial log in.
The lag is going to be extra nasty for this patch.

CLEAN YOU BOOKMARKS YOURSELF!!
CCP have asked people to clean the BM's yourself, otherwise they will do it for you. What I think this means is, the will look at your characters total BM count/size, if it's over a certrain count/size, they go in do whack what they deam to be insta's.
So if you have tactical BM's that are near gates, scared you might loose your Safespots, what ever, then clean your book marks up tonight.
This is just a theory, but if you don't do it, you can't ***** when they are gone, if you do it and they are still gone... well, then I suppose you can *****.

Well if anyone has any sense about them they would simply name the bookmark as such. That would be the first give away.
And yes I don't even know where people are getting this notion the bookmarks are going to be auto-deleted. Why are people even thinking this would happen? Why would it need to? Bookmarks only cause lag by their use so dormant characters with folders full of BM's are not a worry, only the active players.
It is pretty obvious that with the advent of a arp to 0km option that the players will simply delete their own bookmarks themselves. Not have CCP do it for them. And I for one will be laughin on Wednesday when I get out of bed and start deleting them all one by one. And scream out loud "Thank f### for that!" ------

I would like to...but reinstalling the clients several times will kill all your folders they were stored in...so actually i do have app. 20k BMs unsorted w/o any folder and actually i'n not able to determine which are actually G2G and wich not...
Don't speak for the real pain only opening P&P...about 2-5mins client freeze...
So i would welcome any script there, rly!!! --

You could sort the BM by region.
If you named them in a fashion like 'Dest - Start (station/pos/belt)' you could easily find out which are gate2gate bms and wich are other bookmarks. If you did not name them systematically, they're useless anyway.
Generally I moved BM for 'unused' areas into cans to remove loading times as much as possible. --*=*=*--

Most items in this game are relative to a cesltial object, everybookmark has 3dimensianal coordinates. Therefore they can easily delete all bookmarks within X km of ALL celestial objects. It would take 5 mins to program and 5 mins to nest it in some loops. 30 mins to test. atleast 3 days to run the code wasting your game time. It's not difficult implementation. If your extremly worried about the loss of your bookmarks you could simply copy them into the cargohold of a shuttle and hope CCP only checks your P&P, but i wouldn't be suprised if they prevented you from adding BM's later that violated these rules.
I can neither confirm or deny whether or not they are going to force it. I see no point in them lying to us in order to eliminate instas. They can easily parse your bookmarks and delete anything they don't want u to have. So holding on to them doesn't help you even if they are just eliminating instas.

The quote is open for interpretation.
It could mean that you cannot build new instas just as it could mean that they're being deleted from the database.
We'll see. Remember that updating the skills takes about 9h of the estimated patch time. --*=*=*--
