I do quite a bit of market trading and have been making some decent isk at it. I've made enough in the last month to get a fit Thanatos. One of my corp mates asked me about taking investments from corp members give me more capital to work with while also making them some passive isk. I've never done anything like this before and I'm curious if any of you have ideas or suggestions on how to go about it fairly for everyone involved? Also, how would you go about tracking who invested what, how much do they get in return, etc?
Sorry if these are stupid questions. While I haven't decided if I'm going to do it yet or not I want to make sure that if I do that I don't screw myself or anyone else.
Cheers! |

I've done this a few times.
If you can spare a space on one of your accounts for an alt to be CEO of a shell corp, then using the in-game share system can be a good way of handling investments without any need for out-of-game monitoring tools. People can trade the shares without your involvement. Dividend payments and share buybacks can be handled fairly easily. The in-game share system is pretty bad, but it gets the job done provided you plan how you are going to do it from the start and make sure none of the in-game share shortcommings are going to shaft those plans.
Alternatively you can use a read-only-share on a google docs spreadsheet to record all the pertinent information in a way that both you and your investors can easily view. But without in-game shares you'll have to manually send out each dividend payment.
Another record keeping approach that I've used well in the past and can be very good for building up your public image if you want to go on to bigger public investments, is to record everything in an MD forum thread. That way we'll all be able to see how well you get on (or how badly) and we can all chip in our (un)helpful advice.
If you do have bigger plans for the future, it's also a good idea to sort out API keys and maybe even a lightweight audit of your activities. There are some third party monitoring tools that may work well for you here. |

I recommend that you seek the advice of a licensed financial planner, but Bobby is already here.
I've done some really stupid shit in this game.
