Would be nice to have the ability (though you don't need to do it) to set AFK in corp / private channels. Either a manual turn off or on, or an Idle timer that turns to AFK after additional time. If your docked, or in space and have not clicked on anything in.... X amount of time, your icon in the channel goes dim, or has an icon over it, something. Then if your that way for another X min, you go to assumed AFK. This would not effect local at all. And would have an option NOT to use it and just be there. |

It's to hard to talk to your corp mates or the people in your private chat and know they are afk so you need the game to tell you.
My thoughts are, if you and your corp mates or those in your private chat talk so little that you are not even aware when they go afk you have problems to solve and this indicator is not going to help with that.

I do not like this. Say I'm in a chat channel with 'main enemy FC' just talking, or in here for the reason of gaining intel. He goes afk, now I know I can attack.

Those are good points. So you would opt out of that for those channels. I have a few channels I am part of that am just part of and am in all day. If I walk away and someone asks something, they just have to assume I am AFK after a while of no responce, and might be back... later? Would be nice for just standing channels to be able to be set AFK. |

Would be nice for just standing channels to be able to be set AFK. Or, you could do the radical thing and actually type the letters A, F, and K into the chat channel when you go AFK. Sure, someone just logging in wouldn't know you're AFK, but the other people in the channel can tell them.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Will troll for a t-shirt.

I can see cases where you would want to be able to set a little icon near your character name in the channel. Public channels or 'friends only' channels. I would just require this thing to be toggle-able (sp?) per individual channel, for the previously mentioned reasons, but I too, have some private channels where I would find it useful to mark myself as AFK and not fear it being abused.

this really.
If the grapevine does not work unless the people in the channel are really persistent types or not so bright ones it should take one maybe 2 hey man, you there? for them to go must be nobody home....or just not in a mood to talk.

Yes, A toggle would be the option. Default to off.
ANd yes... typing AFK as stated does work for a while. Till Family Aggro or other RL aggro delays your return. Sure they can just assume your not there, but like other IM applications have this feature standard. But this is a feature. If you want it off... leave the damn thing off. A number of people I talked to though it would be beneficial to use for friendly only chat.
