Situation: Pimped out battleship (lets use a Domi for this illustration) enters a new lvl 3 or 4 mission. Domi warps in and instantly draws agro from 10, 20, etc enemy ships. Begins to target ONLY the ships they want to kill because pilot already knows if they kill the wrong one, 20+ ships will spawn, instantly vaporizing their ship. Domi deploys drones and frantically right clicks + engage target, hoping to God the drones donÆt attack the wrong target. Things are going well for the first few minutesàthen, it happensàsome wannabe hero drone of yoursÆ decides to kill that last frigate between your constant right clicking + engaging target frenzy. Boom, your ship explodes into a million pieces.
This hasnÆt happened to me (still at work), but I can see it happening to every single drone user trying to complete these new missions.
Is there a way to solve this problem? And no, ôdonÆt use dronesö is not a correct answer

Launching drones in areas where you can't tank whole buch of hostiles = bad.
Train caldari. -------- The BoB model is bad for business. Incidently the BoB model is more suited for a game such as WoW where as the ASCN model more suited for Eve.

I see you missed the point. In the above situation, the Domi was holding tank just fine. It's when the stupid drone AI decides to kill something you didn't want it to kill, which then spawns a new wave of enemies.

Domis aren't Caldari ships, therefore Domis don't get to do missions. Solution: train Caldari, use a Raven.
It isn't what you want to hear, but its the only answer there is at the moment.

Edited by: Perseus D''Solos on 30/11/2006 00:41:25 Ravens are for nubs who want an "I win"-button. Stick to your domi, upgrade your skills, buy better gear. Doing level four missions without atleast mostly t2 tank fittings isn't usually a good idea. Try to get faction stuff on it as soon as you can afford them, they really do make a differance.
The drone scripts are imperfect, and it's not likely they're ever going to improve substantially. Only way around it is to learn when to stick around, when not to, and to stick the biggest, baddest tank you possibly can onto your ship. Entire Armor back in less than three cycles, anyone?
That, and to be aware of that range and drones doesn't mix. If you have a target orbiting you at 50km, it's almost a sure bet that the !"#%!"#ñ%!"% drones are going to do stupid things such as what you mentioned after having traveled 25-30km. Renew the engage order every 25km or so. Doesn't always work, but it's a small fix...

I wish I had drones that vaporized NPCs so fast that I even had to worry about something like this. Trust me, drone DPS isn't all that with max'd skills.

That and you gotta love when drones suddenly decide to take a break after being ordered to attack a target 50+km away. They charge in heroically for about 20-40km's or so and then suddenly read "Idle" before engaging. Gee, why cant you do that with targets that have not aggroed my ship? I don't care if they aggro you, just leave them the %#@! alone.

blablabla adapt blablabla
You didn't even try using drones in one of the new missions - or those older ones where you got multiple groups that don't aggro instantly, did you?
Drones regularly unlock and go for whatever they think makes a better target than the one you told them to attack. If attacking a certain ship or structure triggers a new wave or most aggro, they will go for it in the most inconvenient moment. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Dont use a hypothese to get a discussion going without it happening to you. If you cant manage your drones properly you should not fly a domi. Period.

Now I haven't done any new missions, so I've still got to verify this, but something I haven't yet seen crop up (frequently, or at all) in the whole rogue drone discussion is that drones will not attack stuff outside your max drone control range.
I can see how this wouldn't work with a Dominix which needs paddles to get itself moving, but I like fast battleships myself. So what works for me in many drone-problematic missions is using range to control my drones:
Get away from everything by 60 kms, aggro a group with whatever, then set the drones to attack incoming frigs.
They won't stray to kill anything that's not already rushing towards you even if they fumble a couple of target assignments.
Note: It's still tricky to do stuff like the mercenary stage in Silence the Informant 4 where you warp into the middle of 6 interceptors and don't really get the option to take proper distance. --

I've done some of these new missions in a domi, and it's not as bad as you claim it to be. In all reality, "accidently" popping a ship w/ a drone is totally absurd, unless you get horrendous lag or are really dumb. Also, if you have trouble w/ the drone aggression, you shouldn't even be piloting a Dominix imho.
Anyway, to solve this problem, just don't be lazy in your drone aggro management. Honestly, what's so hard about targeting the right enemies, hitting "engage targeted enemy" after one blows up and controling your tank be? I guess moderately hard, but that's what makes it fun.
/start rant:
Also, the the people who this "Raven is the most uber mission running ship ever", i can do WC lvl 4 in 45-60min(but i still need to w8 for the **** guys to spawn for the rescue) clearing both areas with only t2 fittings in a domi. Granted i prolly have double the skills needed to fly a raven, but hey, it works for the long run cause gallente carrier is made of win and god, or so i've heard.
/end rant :P |

Sigh i feel your pain guys, as im also using drones as my main weapons and i also et tired of babysitting those buggers.
they will fly off and aggro other spwans- im just gotten used to right click and attack target every 5 seconds. good exercise for your fingers - bad for your right mouse button though :)

Move away from the spawn point. I only did one of the new level 2 missions, but it has spawns on kill too. If you warp in, aggro, start moving, and start killing stuff when you're a bit away, I believe the spawn point doesn't move, so they don't start on top of you anymore, and it should be doable.

Sentry drones are nice, but not always usefull. If something has to high transversal, no matter optimal and range, the sentries will have trouble hitting them. Back to square one when that happens. But I'm not complaining, I'm used to drones borking it by now. Atleast I havn't lost any ships because of it yet, though it has been pretty close a few times :)

Huh, yes, but they can also make things worse:
For one thing, regular drones don't aggro stuff until they actually shoot it (just targetting doesn't kick off aggro most of the time), and they may take a couple seconds to MWD in close enough to actually do that. For the new missions it'll take even longer, since they need to pop the wrong ship. Till that happens you may have reassigned them to their proper targets.
Sentries start shooting almost immediately disregarding range, and have a much better chance to pop stuff with their high alpha damage.
Hmm.
But for the right situation they're still pretty good. --

Edited by: Retrax on 30/11/2006 19:56:05 Edited by: Retrax on 30/11/2006 19:51:04 A raven would die just as fast as a Domi in said mission, given they both use drones/do not use drones. A tier 3 BS would die a little slower. Not using drones *might* help, but the ship isn't the solution. Six large blasters and a webbifier would probably be a good alternative.
The solution, as stated wisely above, is not to accept the mission.
