Imagine that you're asleep one night, and suddenly you wake up and see the Devil in your bedroom. He introduces himself and explicitly tells you that he's going to destroy everything you love, but one thing.
So the Devil introduces you a list of items he's going to destroy, and you must pick one, and only one, to spare. Everything else in the list will be destroyed.
Here's the list. Which one would you save at the expense of everything else in the list?
Your belongings. Your best friend. Your country (nation). Your faith. Your family (relatives). Your favorite artworks. Your job (trade). Your life. Your loved one. Your mental health. Your money (wealth). Your physical health. Your soul.
Remember, only one item: all else will be destroyed. Which one would you spare?

Your belongings. - Material and meaningless. Not this. Your best friend. - Don't have one. Your country (nation). - Patriotism is meaningless. Not this. Your faith. - Heh, definitely not this. Your family (relatives). - No family, not this. Your favorite artworks. - No owned artwork, not this. Your job (trade). - Easily replacable, not this. Your life. - Only as meaningful as one wants. Your loved one. - Ultimately, that would be me. Your mental health. - Lost it long ago, not this. Your money (wealth). - Material and worthless, not this. Your physical health. - Easily repaired, not this. Your soul. - Doesn't exist, not this.
New Eden isn't nice. It isn't friendly. It isn't very hospitiable. Good thing there are people here to shoot in the face.
Want to make New Eden a nice place? Try this out.

Also, the Devil is lying. He can't destroy anything unless you let him. So politely, but firmly, tell him that you're not interesting in playing his silly game and to leave.

Problem starts when the being exists despite you not believing. And not allowing anything to him would be like not allowing Abraxas to deal in all evil and good.
I would tell him that he have to bring me a dodecahedron with 13 faces, If he wants me to choose anything. Sorry Devil, you cant just ask about something and give nothing in return.

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.
As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell.
With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I go out with you", and take into account the fact that I went out with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.
The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore extinct . . . leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being, which explains why last night Teresa kept shouting "Oh, my God!"

You're forgetting that only Catholic souls have mass; the rest do not have mass. If the Pope excommunicates all the Catholic souls in hell then none of the souls in hell will be allowed to have mass, thus neatly sidestepping both possibilities.

The only logical answer to this riddle would be "faith", even though I am an atheist.
Explanation: The fact that the devil appears most likely implies that also god exist and and the basic premises of the bible are most likely true. The devil offers you only one option to safe your life, since these options are mutually exclusive every other wish will get you killed. Should you chose "life", then you would lose everything else, including health, sanity, family and friends- so your life would be a living hell. Should you chose anything else, you would die. So if we discount "life" as a viable option, the only thing that carries over into the afterlife (according to Christianity) would be "faith". And since the basic teachings of Christianity say that we shall be saved from hell/ purgatory/ devil by faith alone, the devil would most likely be powerless to inflict any further damage onto you or your loved ones once you had chosen "faith".
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.

Atheism is still a faith based system. In atheism one's faith is just aligned with the thought/belief/knowledge that there is nothing after our existence on earth. Or one's faith is that science has all the answers and if science does not currently have the answer only science will be able to answer said question, in which case science is one's religion. Or one's faith is based in the thoughts that one just does not give a ****. |

Just saying, not really exclusive to the bible. I think even Nana was referring to the ancient Egyptian devil, or can be. Most religions/beliefs/faiths have a devil or something very similar to every other such belief. But of course the devil is in the details. So no real need for religious discussion on the matter (ibtl?), it's pretty universal, portrayed in many ways in just about anything. tl;dr the devil made me dot it.

Well, this is the third time I post this Question, and not unexpectedly EVE's OOP has provided the most bizarre answers, with exactly one person getting the intent and the rest of answers fiddling around trolling.
On the other two sites, people moved between negotiation (they SHOULD be able to save more than ONE) or anger (it is UNFAIR to be requested to give up everything you love but one thing) and many other concluded that the only answer for a person with a family was to save his family, and a lonely person would just save his beloved one (but not if they had children, that is, a family).
Also there were those who dindn't understand the question, and a few trolls. But nothing like OOPE levels.
(Admittedly, it's the first time I present the Question in English so maybe something has been lost in translation).
73% of EVE characters stay in high security space. 62% of EVE subscribers barely PvP. 40% of all new accounts just "level up their Ravens". Probably that's why PvE content in EVE Online is sub-par and CCP is head over heels for PvP...

One sees it as trolling while the other just views it as an answer out of the box. As the saying goes, "give the devil an inch and he'll be your ruler." Thus frankly, there is no right answer within the list, it's a lose all proposition. With good intention, that's my answer to any entity dropping me the short list. Now about that bridge I'm selling ;)
