Hey!
As the subject says, Im a newbie pilot looking to do Security missions.
Currently running lvl 1's whilst training some gunnery / drone skills up.
Could anyone recommend a good, solid cruiser that would help me do lvl2's or lvl3's?
I heard the Vexor is a good newbie cruiser, is this correct?
If anyone could link some loadouts, I would love you forever
Thanks in advance, Fly safe! o7 |

Here is a thorax fit you can use. If you can't use T2 modules, replace them with whatever you can fit. If you're more into drones, use a vexor with a similar fit (too lazy to fit one up right now).
[Thorax]
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Medium Armor Repairer II
10MN Afterburner II Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script
Dual 150mm Railgun II, Javelin M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Javelin M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Javelin M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Javelin M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Javelin M
Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell I Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell I Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell I
Hobgoblin II x10
edit: buy several kinds of ammo and use whichever has just enough range to hit whatever you are shooting at.

Cruiser is over kill for level 1's and there are some that you cannot even get into with a cruiser, rare but they are out there. I would recommend and Algos(destroyer) for level 1's, sorry but i do not have a fit for one that I can get to at the moment. Will look later when I have a chance and post one if I have it.
The Vexor can be an excellent ship for newer players, however when you add a decent set of drones skills to everything else you need they are more skill intensive than the Thorax.
There are many others out there and hopefully someone will post another. Here is a Vex fit I fly occasionally for level 2 and some level 3 missions.
Drone Link Augmentor I 3x 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II (Republic Fleet Phased Plasma M)
2x Cap Recharger II 2x Tracking Computer II
Damage Control II Medium Armor Repairer II Gyrostabilizer II 2x Adaptive Nano Plating II
Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump II Medium Nanobot Accelerator II Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
For your drones take 6 lights 6 mediums All of them damage specific, see link below for more infoprmation
General notes on this fit.
The Auto canons are used to help with capacitor, since the vex does not get a bonus to any form of weapons other than drones you can fit what ever turret based weapons you want into their place.
The tracking computers are there to help the guns hit small faster moving targets. Not really needed and you can replace them with whatever you want in those slots.
The Gyrostabilizer increases the rate of fire on the turrets thus increasing DPS output. If you are having trouble with your tank you can use this slot for an additional hardener either damage specific or just use an adaptive nano plate and leave it in for all missions.
Replace the 2x adaptive nano plates with mission specific hardeners.
If you do not have the skills or the ISK for the Tech 2 pieces replace them with the best T1 variant you can afford.
This site will help you with missions as well as tell you which damage type to shoot and what damage type to tank for. http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=missionreports

As the others said for lvl 1 missions use a Destroyer, Catalyst for me use 125mm Railguns and keep some distance to track well. Use the Site from above to know your enemies.
Here is a Fit for a Vexor. Vexor have turrets AND Drone bonuses so use them both.
[Vexor, Vexor Newbie Missions] Medium Armor Repairer II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II
10MN Monopropellant Enduring Afterburner Drone Navigation Computer I Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Hammerhead II x3 Hobgoblin II x4
Antimatter Charge M x3000 Thorium Charge M x3000
Use Tech 2 modules where you can or use T1 modules if you cant. If you know what your are doing and dont need that much (Cap Stable) remove Cap Recharger and add a web or Tracking computer (It helps range and tracking, depends on script u use). As for the rigs if you also thinks too much energy replace them with Medium Auxiliary nano pump (Repairs 20% more) and/or Medium Trimark Armor pump (Gives +15% Armor).
Also Change the 2 resist modules depending what is your enemy. Example keep therm and kinetic resists for Serpentis, Guristas etc. |

For level 1 missions start with a destroyer as cruisers are overkill.
Once you get to a cruiser, whilst still a new player consider a passive shield Vexor with 2 x Large Shield Extenders and possibly an invul in the mids and a Damage Control and 2x Power Relay in the lows. Other mods fitted will depend on if you are more focused on the guns or drones. A passive Vexor is relatively low workload for a newer player, all you need to remember is warp out if shields get below 30% . |

I used to love the Catalyst for Level 1 missions. For Level 2 missions, I recommend trying the Vexor. In my case, way back in the day, I skipped right over the Vexor and went straight for the Myrmidon. I used that for a very long time in Level 2 and Level 3 missions.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So, why do I post here?
I'm stubborn.

The Atron and Incursus are solid little brawlers The Tristan is also a good alternative
Tristan is a drone frigate, so you can progress through the Algos to the Vexor The Atron is more pvp orientated, but that doesn't stop you using it for pve |
