It' because their are too many scumbags in eve that many people have decided to play multibox solo. I can't blame them one bit since you don't have to put up with bad drama and awoxers. I've been solo multiboxing 95% of the time since I started playing eve, but I found that it limits your options quite a bit when venturing out into null sec because everywhere you go, there's a scout or two watching you. Before you know it, the blobs comes and ruins your day. For that reason it pretty much makes it mandatory to join a corp if you want to do something fun in eve. |

They buffed solo PvE when they made anoms escalate more often. People farm them big time now for private 4/10s and 5/10s in hisec. Now I gotta use combat probes and weed through all the ships running missions and crap, to find fellow explorers to play with. |

This reminds me of "There are no rights without individual rights" kind of concepts, which are completely true.
However there's a difference between "solo" as many WoW players see it (play vs the AI with no player interaction) and solo where others can affect you, EG: solo PVE in nullsec or solo pvp. The latter is way more important to EVE than the former, in fact I'd argue no activity in EVE should be free from player interaction if someone wants to mess with you badly enough.

The OP is right, most MMOs are mainly solo games, and EVE's "you can solo, but it's almost never optimal to do so" culture and nature is off putting to most MMO players.
As I despise most MMO players, I count this as a serious plus. EVE is a REAL "MMO" in the purest sense, where 'graphics' and 'game mechanics' and 'story lines' are all secondary compared to the main event: "Other Human Beings". That's the way it should stay. |

Ok, I'm puzzled by that first statement. Sure, most of the time I am 'doing my own thing' but that doesn't mean I'm actually playing solo. There are people to watch out for.
Exciting fights against difficult odds are always fun... and actually, I believe that far too many people mistake MMO for MOBA. I'm hoping to be able to go on a null roam (NPSI) this weekend. I expect to be podded.
As to the 'tried and true' group of 5 strangers... it barely works in that other game, and I can't see how it could possibly work here... especially considering PVE content here. Just finished SOE again, that was enough npc shooting for me. |

The second M. You might be a special snowflake solo player, but don't make the mistake in assuming that everyone shares such a sentiment. MMOs are by nature social, because they are in most cases objectively inferior single player games when weighed against an actual single player game. I'm not going to chew on Destiny for not having as much single player content as Fallout 3, because if I were, then I'd only be playing a portion of the game and weighing it against a full game. Quote: But making solo players become second class because they choose not to enjoy forced playstyles doesn't work.
What you're really asking for here is that numbers cease being a force multiplier, so you don't feel like you are making the wrong choice. And that will never happen. Deal with it.
Multiplayer does not mean working together.
Solo players in multiplayer games enjoy social interaction in that we are one person mixed among thousands, just not the cooperative kind. We'd much rather see you all burn, and don't particularly appreciate it when additional obstacles are placed in front of this choice. We already have to get around the numerical disadvantage as it is.

EVE is not a solo game, and it should not be a solo game. That simple. You can chose to play it like a solo game, but you will have more fun, based on CCP's own statistics, if you join a corp then if you play alone. Giving more chances for corp and alliance play as a group is not a bad thing. Other mmo';s have this type of stuff in the form of raids.
And i did not read your post btw op. *cough* bullshit. That's not at all what they state. What they stated was that people who didn't interact with the game were more likely to quit, with things such as using the market classed as interacting with the game. Plenty of players play solo but interact with people through systems like the market and contracts and passive competition. This is the problem when CCP hand out stats, people misunderstand them then go running off down the road screaming absolute nonsense as if it's truth.
He's right in one sense that there's too much focus being given to single styles of play. In a sandbox people are supposed to play however they want. Taking content and forcing it to be played in one way is stripping the sandbox away, no matter what their reasoning.
EDIT: Don't get me wrong though, group PvE is needed, they just have to be pretty careful about how they weigh it in.

One thing I want is a mission type that requires you to fleet up to do it and have it in hisec., we go and do level 4's together at times but its so easy its more like we see who can blap the most per room or who can get the last blow in. And no I do not want to do this in low sec or 0.0 before the normal cretins start mentioning level 5's in low sec.
My point of view is that if you give some multi-player content in safer areas that is more accessible then the elitist Incursions you will push more people to work together and get into the multi-player game quicker. But CCP seems to miss the obvious... and listens to the cretins...

Invalid. The other games aren't really MMOs, they just abuse the name to give the illusion of playing with hundreds of others while you actually play alone and have no influence on the world or its inhabitants. Therefore the thread is invalid as these games aren't comparable to EVE ONLINE anyway.

I guess you guys could try running level 4s in assault frigates or something. Some of the cosmos and storyline stuff in hisec is harder than lvl 4s I hear. I still haven't tried any of them though. Not much into missions.
Trouble with making harder group content for hisec is that you would expect it to pay more. But more pay is supposed to come with more risk. And players will min max the crap out of things in hisec. I suppose CCP could ban battleships from lvl 4s like they banned T3s from 4/10s. :P Then add some sort of hisec version of lvl 5s for battleships. Then you'd get more fleeting up for both 4s and 5s. |

Hir Miriel wrote:I'm concerned. The foundation of every MMO is solo play. But what tends to happen is people see Multiplayer and assume that everyone wants to form gangs. It's absolutely not true. We can see that echoed in this dev blog... "We have never been particularly satisfied with how the majority of Sov upgrade PVE content tends to lean towards solo or multibox play. " http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/summer-of-sov-nullsec-pve-and-upgrades/ ~~~ What tends to happen next is that rewards for gangs (usually of five) gaming is overly rewarded, in a shabby attempt to get players to network and bring in their friends. And the attempt fails because it denies player choice. It forces playstyle. The only time the sandbox should be fully enclosed is for PvP. People love fair fights. You can see that in the success of Starcraft and League of Legends etc. Even numbers and so on. But making solo players become second class because they choose not to enjoy forced playstyles doesn't work. EVE Online will keep them, because they tend to be fantastically loyal, but it will reinforce a community division. So if CCP decides to bring in "rewarding" group play, then we can expect forum wars over the topic. Because as CCP admit, people do like solo play, even if they have to multibox to do it. That love of solo play is the same for every MMO. So what might be best is to make sure every player can enjoy every aspect of the game solo, and perhaps with some sort of modular design allow that to escalate to groups, if players choose. But hey, what do I know. Although I will bet EVE goes with the tried and true, groups of five strangers PUG dungeon design. I wish them the success that the strategy deserves.
Can't disagree more.
Firstly, the foundation for a MMOG should allways be multiplayer. I totally agree with CCP that the PvE content in this game is allready far to focused on solo activitys. Having the option to do stuff solo when your friends are offline is a fine thing. But if your plan is to play a game 100% solo, then a MMO is probably the wrong game for you. No one forces you into the group play. Its not like there are OP "bind on pickup" weapons that only drop from that specific "boss". We dont play THAT kind of game.
Secondly : EvEs PvP is not fair. It never was, nor does it ever want to be fair. It is the exact oposite of games like Starcraft or LoL. Thats what makes EvE so wonderfull. In EvE you dont try to win fair fights. EvE is about making the fights as unfair towards your advantige as you can.
