what was it, just bad code/release?
that's annoying..but fair play for the progress.
Transparency. The people that make this game what it is aren't dummies, the game is proof of that. Transparency does 2 things; 1 it gives us a sense of ownership - and that's priceless; 2 it shares the wider picture with a captive audience where, there is no doubt, resides sources of knowledge greater than your own. No I'm not saying I'm one of them.
You know people can say it is just a game, whilst that is of course a fact, it is much more than that. It is why Eve is unique, because it is both so impossibly complex yet at the same time so very simple. A bit like life. It's this reason that you get people, me included, being so peeved when it's snatched away

I was surprised when the game remained down for as long as it did. however, i suddenly remembered the colossal outages back when I played everquest right after luclin was released go go 3 day server downs and huge hiccups that went unmatched until planes of powers dx update that had hillarious consiquences.
Eve has been a godsend of stability wise when compared. gj getting it up and running again though :)

Seriously down, what, 12hrs'ish? 11 hours, 41 minutes by my watch. Hell of a day!
I feel with you lot. Had something like that with a Symmetrics microcode upgrade going wrong, took 1.5 day to get the thing running again. In meantime praying the standby system wouldn't crash, luckily it was in the weekend so not to much traffic going in or out.
Like once doing a HACMP cluster update but something went awry so instead off taking 30 mins it took just under 4 hrs thats including time to restore a backup of an application.

Mourn LeBlade wrote:I once worked over 48 hours straight on a circuit cut-over. Nobody thanked me because it was my job, and I was paid well to do it. Failure was not an option. As a paid professional your paycheck should be its own reward. Unless it's volunteer work, there is no need to prostrate yourselves and say thanks to those fixing what shouldn't be broken. The world has certainly changed. Trophy Generation.
That may very well be -- and it is certainly true - that I have put in inordinate amount of time on fixing outages. In one situation - where the com circuit went from South Korea to Japan - and was considered to be one of the most vital circuits we had - it was down for 3 days. The US Air Force guys in Japan were the controllers on the circuit. I had just finished a 12 hour shift and briefed the oncoming shift and shift supervisor - when I was called by the Army general's staff - directing that I, not my people, but I take over the control of the circuit and was not to go home until it was fixed. The problem was still in Japan, the Air Force techs were the only ones able to physically work on it - but I was still stuck at work.
I've had many another time that I had to work inordinate amounts of time to repair outages. And yes, it was never expected for someone to say "Thank you" --- but it was nice to be recognized for my efforts - or to have my people recognized for their efforts.
It is never - I repeat "never" in appropriate to tell someone thank you for doing their job.

Has there been any talk of naming this event? For future reference. Something like "The Aegis Flaw of 2015"?
I've been playing since 2011 and never seen anything like this.
And I guarantee you every meeting before down time for the next month is going to end with someone saying to make sure they don't have to order Castello's Pizza tonight. lol

Ooh, maybe they can do extended downtimes once a day now so we can REALLY be appreciative of when we do get to play!
And maybe they can sometimes charge us double so we can REALLY be appreciative of when we only have to pay the normal rate.

Think about the positives that may have occurred as part of this extended DT. Some nerds have no finger nails left and the World's population is probably going to show a increases in 9 months time. All of this, due to EVE having an extended down time isn't that just awesome! I call that a Win/ Win,as longs as I'm not the DAD |

Thats exactly what we do when we have some massive problems with our infrastructure at the datacenter and everyone is doing overtime. Sit about with your dicks in your hands and eat pizza? Gee let me know which DC that is so I can make sure to never rent servers there.
Dude, can I please have your real name and what country you live in so that I can make sure that you NEVER become a client of mine and any of my friends. And I'll be sure to pass on the information to those I work with and are in my network.
I think you're forgetting one very important thing: Humans are not robots and need downtime, even if it's sitting at their desk for 15 minutes munching on a pizza with their **** in their hand. I'll bet you the programmers at CCP will be more productive in those 15 minutes than you will be ever.

To those who think that the work done by everyone involved in solving this issue or keeping us updated, be in a direct on indirect way is nothing anybody should thank them for, because it's their Job and they get paid for doing so: I pity you.
Money is no effective way to motivate people. And the share that every one of us provides to the salary of those that "did their job yesterday" is tiny down to microscopic levels. I would'nt want to work in a company where no one, colleages, superiors and customers alike, considers to say thank you. Not even during and after unordinary events.
The last time I checked, we all were humans. And (most) humans are not driven by money alone. Consider to be more grateful and respectful towards those, that do their best to ensure that you are happy. An honest "Thank you" does'nt hurt.
