Zrakor, you and your fellow mission coders are complete and utter bar stewards! We were having a perfect run and then SPLOOT, down goes a tech 2 logistics cruiser because someone shot a stasis webifier battery.

Common dude, this stuff is great. We lost a covert ops, a t1 frig and an assault frigate to some weird radioactive building last night.
We didn't get any decent loot but hey it was fun

It should be general knowledge after nearly 3 years of mission running that shooting buildings often has nasty side effects. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Exploding structures do splash damage now? If it is true missions and complexes should be more entertaining and might require some thought on the part of the participants.
Also any screenshots of the radioactive cloud?

I've never had a "nasty side effect" from shooting a building, been running missions for 2 years off and on.

Me neither.
Will I get concorded if I shoot a building in empire that causes splash damage and there is a cloaked guy next to it?

it's the new mission system:
by killing certain npc/structure you can trigger:
A) another spawn
B) npc's get totally healed
C) smartbomb effects
D) other unknown efects
mission running just got more interesting
...now if they could randomize what npc/structure triggers the event, it would become even better -------

And by smartbomb they mean a less powerful titan doomesday weapon effect. i.e. everything in the grid gets a good blasting.
If we had known earlier we could have taken out pretty much all the NPCs in one fell swoop!
What I tracked down was a 2 stage deadspace pocket. The first stage had a bank of 10 angel cruise missile launchers and a gist battleship sitting at 60 km off the gate, along with 10 angel sentryies and another gist battleship 60km in the other direction. Both sides also had 4 stasis webbies. The gate was only activateable if you were carrying an Angel Diamond tag. Our Raven tanked the damage quite easily but as soon as someone shot one of the stasis webs a buttload of gist ships showed up, including a Gist gatekeeper. When the gatekeper was shot, the gate no longer required the diamond tag.
Off to the next stage and we found a load more gist ships as well as an Angel Control Tower. Cleared the ships and started ont he control tower, which triggered a buttload more angel ships to show up to defend it, including an Overseer who dropped feck all.
And then we tried splattering one of the 2 stasis webbies on that level. Bad idea. Grid-wide smartbomb which did for our Scimitar pilot in one blast.
Fun encounter, crap loot and nothing further, but what the hell. |

In many missions you got the full unaggroed spawn to instantly go into aggro mode by shooting at structures.
The devs did state early that there will be interesting terrain effects. (You're sure about the grid sized effect of the blast? That seems to be a wee bit oversized. Usually I am the one removing the structures when the NPC are gone ...) --*=*=*--

To pop a scimitar it has to be around 5k after resists. So I guess 10k or more.

Actually no, not sure about the grid sized effect, but they COULD do that y'know.
I was watching from an alt in a pod who survived intact so either it was a smartbomb effect that did not occur on pods or else it was localised and the scimmy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Either way it was a case of zap zap zap BOOOOOOMMM ARRRGHHHHHH!!!! |
