Ok, So the concept is a simple one to start, but gets rather complex in actual application. Call the expansion something like Chimera or Chameleon. Concept can run either of two ways. New ship types, or existing ship types. In existing ship types, the capsuleer can pay to "remod" their ship, increasing and decreasing high, medium and low slots for different styles. Things like hard points for weapons can be traded out (i.e. a drake with 4 missile hard points and the other two traded for turrets, left open or traded for a medium and low slot or two medium slots or two low slots). In the idea of new ship types, make it a new pilot skill (maybe call it a Q-ship skill) and have the ship type be available in each of the respective ship classes as a base model of that ship class so that it doesn't stand out on HUD as anything but a cruiser, or destroyer, etc... Base model allows for basic stats for the class, and basic slots for the class of ship. Mods can be purchased with isk to increase shield, armor, structure, speed, cargo, and the slots and hard points can be purchased and/or traded as previously mentioned. This is just a basic idea for the expansion but would make things interesting for pirates and other capsuleers not knowing exactly what they may run into. Let me know your thoughts on this and lets see if it has merit, and we can maybe make it happen. |

And anyone who has anything remotely to do with game balance just slit their wrists... kinda like I wanted to while reading this wall of text post...
Before suggesting something like this, I have a simple project for you. Take a super simple symmetric board game like Monopoly, and try to make it asymmetric so that playing as "Hat" feels different from playing as "Car". Maybe Car gets to add 1 to it's die roll and maybe Hat starts out with $300 extra...
Now play the game, did your rule changes break it? If not, continue adding game pieces and powers until you have 300 unique different game pieces, each time making sure your new pieces didnt unbalance the game.
Now consider how much more complicated Eve is than Monopoly.

Just... No. CCP has enough of a hard time balancing things with non-moving slots layout.
In case of ponies, keep calm and start running.

That freaking wall of text. Damn.
To the idea itself, no thanks. I don't see how it would contribute in any way known to mankind. |

NO - because game balance issues that are to unreal to even try to figure out.
But I do wonder which ship / slot layout / fit would be the new OP ship to fly. |
