Hey Val, welcome to EVE. In this forum there is a very informative sticky post of another capsuleer who took the effort to write a neat little guide on what to look for (and what to look out for) when looking for a corporation to join.
You can find the guide here. |

You may be setting too many filters on the in-game corporation recruitment tool. There is also a recruitment channel in the forums where they have a bit more room to present their message. You also know that anyone with a current post is actively recruiting. |

No sticky needed here it is if you have not found it.

Talk to people in game and ask lots of questions.
Don't be afraid to go on a journey to explore EvE and while looking for a corp to join.

This is some of the best advice on this topic. Eve is a very social game. People often socialize whilst trying to kill each other. Some people even claim to have met some of their best in game friends by shoot at or being shot at by them.
So talk in local. Find in game chat channels for things that you like doing, there are channels made by players for wormholing and pirating and low sec living etc... Also any corp that you find that you are interested in will typically have a chat channel. Just in general socialize with people and when you find a group that you think that you would have fun playing with them join them.
Another thing that you can do, especially if you are a solo miner (because you have the time to do so), is check out people in local. Right click then show info on them then click on their corp and check out the description tab. Many corps will have descriptions about what they like to do as well as public chat channels that you can join to find out more. One thing to note is that there will be some posturing on those descriptions as if you were to write "we are a high sec industrial / carebear corp that likes to mission and mine in high sec and don't like to PvP" then they would be almost permanently war deced. So you'll have to learn to take everything you read there with a grain of salt.
Just in general socialize with other players and find a group of players that is doing what you enjoy doing. If you don't know what that is then try different stuff out until you figure that out. |

Finding the right corporation is a really important step in any Eve career.
Before beginning your search you should decide on what type of corporation you are looking for. Do you want a corp that lives in highsec? lowsec? 0.0? Do you want to be involved with PvP content, PvE content or both? Are you looking for a group of industrial players? PvP players? Once you've made some of these decisions to help narrow down what you're looking for there are a few different options you have for actually finding a corp.
1. The in-game recruitment channel. You can join this channel and you will see many corporations posting adverts for their corp. Take the time to read a bunch and find what you are looking for.
2. The recruitment forums. In this area of the forums you will find corporations posting looking for new members. Sometimes you will be able to get more information about the corps here than in the recruitment channel since they generally write more about the specific types of people they are looking for and what the corporation itself offers.
Alternatively, in this forum section you can also post a thread yourself about looking for a corp and mention exactly what you're looking for and you should receive replies from some recruiters who would be happy to have you.
3. The in-game search tool. This tool can be useful but in my opinion I have found more success using the above two methods.
No matter which method you choose, you should take the time to talk to the corps that you are considering. Most corps will have a public channel that you can join and you should take advantage of this so that you can see if the corp will be a good fit for you.

Often worth noting that the people you have conflict with generally tend to share your interests (Hense the conflict) assuming you don't get caught up in pettyness (and they're not complete arses) opening a civil dialogue with them can lead to making connections and/or recruitment (often just gets you slagged off but it's usually worth it)
It's been my experience that a good attitude will get you far in eve

Look for a group that wants to kill the same kind of people you want to kill and that you feel do it in a way you like the look of. |

In addition to the Alliance & Corporation Recruitment Center, there's a good short-list at the bottom of the following /r/Eve post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/3fcpa1/is_it_too_late_to_join_eve/ctnf5mi
There is even an entire subreddit for corp hunting (to be honest, there is probably a subreddit for everything):

Oh, and just because a corp recruitment ad states you must be this tall to ride have this many SP to join, doesn't mean you shouldn't talk with a recruiter and see how flexible they are, and try to convince them, or ask for suggestions (big alliances often have training corps). |

Confirming, a good attitude will carry you much much farther than your skill points will.

In addition to the good advice others have offered in this thread, I'll also suggest checking out the Eve University. It can be a good way to socialize and get you a feel for different parts of Eve, while you decide what you want to do further down the road.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So, why do I post here?
I'm stubborn.
