So here I am mining ice in my covetor and the 3 min jettison timer is much longer than the time it takes for me to fill up my ore hold. I have even been staggering my harvester's and it still isn't enough. Considering that you don't get anything when the ore hold is full when the cycle completes, is there any point to continue to mine ice in a covetor, or should I switch to a mackinaw? |

Covetor (and Hulk) with their small cargo are best utilised in fleet ,with (boosting) Orca floating nearby. You don't jetcan the ore, you move it to Orca's fleet bay. Dedicated hauler in T1 industrial takes it and flies it to station/POS. Or you can use a freighter that collects the ore directly from Orca, to avoid numerous hauling trips. |

If you're mining alone (one ship and one account), you're definitely better with a retriever or a mackinaw. Covetor/Hulk are supposed to be used with a hauler like a orca where the miner can put the ore directly in the fleet hangar of the orca.

The Covetor and the Hulk are both fleet mining vessels as they can barely hold two cycles worth of mined ore in their holds. The Skiff is also really a fleet mining vessel and will be seen mostly in fleets although some will argue otherwise.
You need to use a Retriever or a Mackinaw if you are mining solo. I have seen some people using multiple MTUs with Retrievers so that is another option. People used to use GSCs as well but I think that method is rarely seen nowadays. Alternatively you can do the 'jetcan' method which is still used quite a lot. It opens you up to theft of ore or griefing but it is a viable tactic. |

Another point to jettison timers is so that if I bought x1000 antimatter I couldn't make a minefield around a stargate for example that would decloak anything that jumps through. Or something of that nature. |

To avoid jetcan spam. Jita and other hubs are bad enough as it is with the crap that people dump (MTUs, mobile depots etc). |

The guys are right above, the covetor is only good for fleet mining, where a hauler/orca can look after your loads.
Consider some of the options below:
Covetor - fleet mining. Or if solo, jet can, open jet can and drag ice into can until it is full...this will allow you to fill up the can whilst your jettison timer expires.
Retreiver - solo, back and forth from the station. OR three MTUs, drop them, mine mine mine mine until they are full, dock and return in your miasmos to empty the MTUs.
With MTUs, be careful of people stealing from the cans as they are pulled or indeed blowing up the MTUs for their goodness.

Might I recommend putting ice into an already open jetcan? You don't have to create a new can each time |
