Hey all,
I consolidated this from my old thread to keep it steered in the direction I'm going for.
I've read a lot about Drake solo builds using Heavy Assault Missiles, which I'd like to try. I'm working on training up Advanced Weapon Upgrades, getting to Engineering V, etc., so I can have more powergrid to finish out the passive tank with a Large Shield Extender II. This is the build I'm working with so far, do you guys think it will hold up at all without the Large Shield Extender II for now, while getting my skills up, or am I just going to get crushed with the sort of paper thin tank I'm using currently?
I'd really like to use Heavy Assault Missiles, but need some advice on how to setup my midslots (until I have more powergrid to finish the passive tank.) Thanks much!
Current Setup:
High Slots: ----------- 2x XT-2800 Heavy Assault Missile Launcher 5x 'Malkuth' Heavy Assault Missile Launcher 1x E50 Prototype Energy Vampire
Medium Slots: ------------- 1x Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive 1x Fleeting Progressive Warp Scrambler I (7.5KM Range; 2x Scramble Strength) 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator 3x Invunerability Field II
Low Slots: ---------- 1x Power Diagnostic System II 1x Reactor Control Unit I (To be switched for Power Diagnostic System when possible.) 2x Ballistic Control System II

I'd switch (for now) the 3 invuls for 3 single-resist hardners if I were you. If you only keep 1 BCU and fit 3 PDUs, can't you already fit a LSE2 and 2 invuls ? _____ -sig-

I've ajusted my build to fit in a Large Shield Extender II, and am currently using:
High Slots: ----------- 2x XT-2800 Heavy Assault Missile Launcher 5x 'Malkuth' Heavy Assault Missile Launcher 1x E50 Prototype Energy Vampire
Medium Slots: ------------- 1x Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive 1x Fleeting Progressive Warp Scrambler I (7.5KM Range; 2x Scramble Strength) 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator 1x Large Shield Extender II 2x Invunerability Field II
Low Slots: ---------- 1x Inertial Stabilizer 3x Type-D Power Core Modification (Reactor Control)
My question is, why do you suggest switching the 2 remaining Invulnerability Field II for single-resist hardeners?
Also, just in general, will this setup be able to really hold up in solo PVP? It seems to have a paper-thin tank, will the DPS really make up for it?
I'm working up my skills to have enough power to switch out the Reactor Control units for Ballistic Control Units in the low slots, as power allows. I also really know nothing about rigs, except that they're apparently not yet available? (I've been out of the game for about 2 or 3 months, and unfortunately couldn't have skills training during that time.)
Thanks much!

i'm not a caldari ship pilot but i recall from some post that with shields active > passive along resist.
on a basis you get an overall better result with 3x dif hardeners than with 3x invul (less cap consumption and almost same resist) but not an expert so can't say for sure.

Shield Power Relays provide better recharge than PDUs, you might find you're better off with a medium extender and a rack of SPRs than a Large extender and fitting mods. Also, why a nosferatu on there - if it's to keep your stuff running then something's wrong because the MWD is your greatest power drain and you aren't going to be in nos range when you use it; if it's for cap denial then an energy neutraliser would be a better choice. On the other hand if it's just there because you had a spare slot and wanted to fill it with something you might be better saving the powergrid for your extender; or if you are operating in any sort of squadron a gang assist mod for improved resists...
I think however that the number of slots your having to use on the web, scram and MWD seriously impairs your ability to fit a solid passive tank, an EM hardener, Invulnerability field, large shield booster II and rack of PDUs is possibly a better bet.

Switching the NOS for a Neut sounds like it might be a viable idea, I'll give that a shot.
But, why the non-active single-resist hardeners over Invunerability Field II's? I'm no shield tanking genius, but wouldn't guarding slightly less against multiple kinds of damage, help protect you more than more resist in a single damage type with a non-active hardener?
I'm really going for a solo PVP setup, and will be swapping the PDU's/RCU's for BCU's as power allows as I get more skills finished out.
How've people's experience with this setup been in solo PVP so far, also?

While I'm on the subject... what type of missiles might be better suited for PVP? Should I mix types, or stick with one primary damage type?

With max skills right now you'd probably be better off fighting with just a full rack of kinetics. That 25% bonus will offset the difference in tank resists, unless you know you're going up against people tanked specifically to Serpentis and Gurista rats. Then I'd suggest a mix of EM and Explosive since they'll be floating mostly Kinetic and thermal hardeners. Shield tankers would be a bit more vulnerable to a mix of em and kinetic, but shoot for the average.
=+=+=+=+=+=+= Time to go with a more... Honest, sig.

Edited by: Ariel Stardust on 03/12/2006 14:15:25 Edited by: Ariel Stardust on 03/12/2006 14:14:47 Sounds good on the missiles, thanks for pointing that out. For now I'll go with a rack of kinetics.
As far as shield hardening goes, could anyone fill me in on that a bit more? I'd really appreciate it, I don't have an extensive amount of combat experience lately, so I want to prepare my ship as much as possible as I get back into the game.
Currently I have setup:
High Slots: ----------- 2x XT-2800 Heavy Assault Missile Launcher 5x 'Malkuth' Heavy Assault Missile Launcher 1x E50 Prototype Energy Vampire
Medium Slots: ------------- 1x Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive 1x Fleeting Progressive Warp Scrambler I (7.5KM Range; 2x Scramble Strength) 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator 1x Large Shield Extender II 2x Invunerability Field II (or 1x Invul. Field II & 1x Photon Scattering Field II)
Low Slots: ---------- 1x Local Hull Conversion Inertial Stabilizer I 3x Type-D Power Core Modification (Reactor Control)
I really don't know what to make as my final decision for the mid-slot shield tanking modules, though.
My current shield resists are as follows:
With 2x Invunerability Field II: -------------------------------- Shield HP: 9308 Shield Recharge Time: 1000s EM Resistance: 56.01% Explosive Resistance: 82.40% Kinetic Resistance: 73.60% Thermal Resistance: 64.81%
With 1x Invuln. Field II & 1x Photon Scattering Field II: --------------------------------------------------------- Shield HP: 9308 Shield Recharge Time: 1000s EM Resistance: 71.72% Explosive Resistance: 76.20% Kinetic Resistance: 64.30% Thermal Resistance: 52.40%
Anyone have any thoughts on this? And, will either of these really hold up in true combat? Much appreciated!
