Am I the only one who is tired of getting this request for the name of a character every time I login to play EVE Online?
I only ever play on the one machine and only ever from Home, so why does it keep doing this?
It might be allocated a different IP Address by my ISP, but I can't do anything about that. Several times I have been prevented from using one account because I could not recall the name of either of my characters.
If you want two-factor authentication then fine, but this is not the way to go about it. Needless to say CCP are perfectly happy to accept my money each month - just not so keen to let me play the actual game.
Time to let my four account subscriptions expire I think |

Incidentally, this is one very good reason for using one of the excellent Apps for iOS or Android, which give an update of Training Queues and the like.
Of course, they also list the names of the characters in each account.
Sadly one of my accounts has not been added to this App yet. Even so, Apps like NanoCom, NeoCom, Aura, etc. are worth trying.
(I am not connected in any way with any of these Apps, other than as a happy customer) |

You could click the box that says 'don't ask me again'.
Then again that probably doesn't work either. |

The only time it seems to happen to me is when I log off one account and then try to change the launcher over to another account without bringing up a fresh launcher. Once it come up you may as well start over.
I am sure on occasion I make a mistake in typing the account name and pw, but although it is very difficult to be absolutely certain, there seem to be times no mistake was made and it happens.
Whenever it comes up, it never works whether you name a correct character or not.
May be different for other players of course. |

It's a necessary evil, as with any other game account hacking can be profitable; especially if there is a black market for ingame currency and items.
I get asked very occasionally for Eve, normally after my ISP has decided to reboot/update my modem during the night; Steam on the other hand asks me for a verification code at least once a week, regardless of whether or not my IP has changed.
It may be worth asking your ISP if they offer a static IP address.

I'm regularly logging in from 4 different locations atm, using two computers. It is getting onerous tbh.

I do believe that you will also get that notification if you type the wrong password. So if you have multiple passwords and are confusing them then that might be adding to the frequency with which you see it.

I also have to leap into this ring of fire every time I log on, and I also only play from one machine, in my own home. It seems to be happening a lot more frequently since the last few updates.
But luckily I have a good enough memory to recall all the pertinent facts (that and I store them on my phone).
The Pro Synergy Pilot is not just a fighting man, he is a salvage expert.-áIf it is lost, in the blackness of space, he will find it. If it has been destroyed, he will loot and salvage it. If it is in his way, he will move it. If he is lucky he will be podded 20 jumps from home, for this is the closest he come to being hero.

Strange. I only have to enter my character name after I fatfinger my password. In fact, when it asks me for my character info I press cancel and just retype my password.
Always works.

I think I'm getting this after either a password typo or my modem losing power for any reason (intentional reset or turning off the wrong powerpoint by mistake)

If your IP changes, it will prompt this. Some ISPs have begun randomly changing IPs.

Try resetting your password, that should display the name of the last character you used. |

Just bypass the launcher, go into your C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin and make a shortcut of exefile. Then type in your account name and password. All you have to do then is use the launcher for applying updates.
And if you have multiply accounts you want to run at the same time right click -> open and it will launch another client. |

I don't use the launcher for anything except updating when patch time rolls around (way too often) and only ever get asked for a character name after my dynamic IP changes - About once per month.
Logging into account management is more of a pain - It for some reason requires me to re-type my password for every second character. Select account, enter password, get an error message, it goes back to login page, re-enter password and it logs in. I hope this is just a simple bug CCP is working toward fixing.
Hint; "Account management" when you have multiple accounts - Don't use 2 factor authentication - It is just painful.
My opinions are mine.
