This is now becoming a joke and has started happening after the las big update.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have even changed the port but still happening.
CCP please sort this problem as I know it isn't me and does not happen on any other online game. |

Yes, they said it isn't them throttling port 2600 or any others.
It has never "socket closed" until after the last big patch when the server was offline forever.
Since then the problem has been persistent. |

Nah, I'm having the same problem. I'm lucky to get 3-4 hours in without at least one client getting socket closed. This is while running 3 clients usually. My provider is not Virgin.

I also get the 'Socket Closed' 2-3 times every day now. It was all fine before the last patch. So it has to be something.

Keep in mind kids, the argument "I never get this with any other games" also doesn't fly either. 90% of the time you play an online game you're connecting to a localized server, probably in the same country you're in.
EVE on the other hand is in the UK, and we [Americans and Canadians] all have to cross the Atlantic to get to it. At lot more potential for **** to go wrong doing that.

I've been noticing a lot of socket closed errors on my characters in Jita, characters elsewhere seem to stay connected.

I had mad socket closed issues. I tried every work around. Finally, simply plugging in my ethernet and turning off wireless solved it completely. not had a -single- socket close since then, down from 1 every 1 or 2 hours |

It's definitely something from the last patch. I am getting the 'socket closed' almost every time I run a forsaken rally point. It's usually at the end, the very last spawn, when I only have battleships left.
I thought it was my old/bad computer first, but then it happened on my new/good computer too - in which I don't often rat.

Changing the port number doesn't work and I have also tried it from my other address (BT Fiber) and it happens there too.
Everything points to the last patch but same old adage, it won't be CCP because they don't make mistakes.

Yes, it seems to happen with almost every Forsaken Rally Point I run. In the last hour, I've had 4 closed sockets, and ran 3 rally points on 2 accounts.

This is happening to me as well while running anomalies (i'm running Forsaken Hubs). It happens pretty much every time an anomaly is cleared, or when leaving it while it is still active. It also sometimes happens randomly while in the middle of fighting the enemy ships.
I've tried everything on the socket closed FAQ page and it still happens. The fact that it happens constantly while running anomalies, and never happens while doing anything else makes me think that it must be some problem with the anomalies themselves. |

Okay, after being disconnected on 4 jumps in 5, I got these results; http://i.imgur.com/F8PVg8k.png - issue appears to be at VM, but I've contacted them and they are as adamant as ever that their end is fine.

Thank you for linking this. I also am using VM and the superhub 2, so maybe it's the problem. Following that thread, I have purchased a hub, switched the VM superhub 2 to modem-mode, and am testing it over the next few days. Lets hope I can complete a whole forsaken hub without the socket closing. |

Ok, I have managed to run two (2) forsaken rally points without a socket closed crash! That hasn't happened in weeks, since the last update.
It sounds like the problem is with the Virgin Media Superhub 2 firmware, and that it can be fixed by using the superhub as a modem and using your own router.
Following the comments above, I bought the TP-Link Archer C20i AC750 Wireless Dual Band Router for -ú35 from Argos and installed it, logged into the superhub and switched it to 'modem mode', then plugged everything in and rebooted everything. Once the connection was back, I logged into EVE and so-far so-good. *crosses fingers*
I'll let you know if I get any more crashes.

Ok, yep. Pretty sure that fixed it. I've run a dozen sites and an escalation now without a socket closed crash. |

They are just now acknowledging the issue by trying to collect more data - http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Gaming/Intermittent-connection-with-Gaming/td-p/2887404
For anyone else on VM with the issue - it lies with the latest router firmware. If you only have one PC and it's wired, putting your Superhub into modem mode will resolve the issue. Obviously this stops you using wifi. Otherwise, you either need to buy a router (you can get them as low as -ú30 on amazon), or wait for VM to fix it. This could honestly be weeks/months.
It's not just EVE affected, all MMOs seem screwed.

Also getting random disconnects, 3 of my clients will drop at the same time and one of them seams immune. 4 times this has occurred today. Yesterday had no issues.
Also cannot log on these clients for a little while after while, but the immune one runs fine. It will say connection time out on the EVE client. |
