Ya know im a returning player to the game after a 2 year break and stumbled on a thread on another site about something that happened this year appaently, inwhich CCP broke it imo once again its trust is has towards its players, which is really all thats holding it togather with its staggering player (online at one time count). Which is has on any statistics site regarding Tranquility stats.
My question is with all the new space games coming out with which 2 are a big threat, one already being out. What edge does CCP have?
This isnt a troll post, but a legitimate concern.
The only Edge it has ever had is a Persistent game world, which is becoming a norm & its "unique freedom" it gives its players. Or did tell this year when it banned a player for taking the dark-side of eve to the extreme.. But by doing so it leaves a question and thus a doubt.
That person was the best at what they did. but who was 2nd best, and do they now have to worry about being banned as now their the best?.... Imo it killed the games only edge it had over future games coming out, and well end up being its downfall simply cause of the question... Do players have to worry about getting banned from the game that capitalizes on that one aspect of "uniqueness" over the other games out there, for which this subject is based on. |

Unlike Star Citizen, which you were trying to dance around naming, EVE Online actually exists, instead of being a consumer confidence scam thinly disguised as vaporware.
And Elite Dangerous, while a rather nice flight sim style game, is seriously lacking in worldbuilding and interactivity. Also, last time I checked, which admittedly was a while ago, they were having huge problems controlling hackers.

Haven't there been a lot of games that were "going to kill EvE"? Yet, here EvE is... As I see it, what EvE has that other games don't - cannot, at least for a long time - is 12 years of players creating a rich, in-depth history with and within the game. Also...even if EvE was shut down tomorrow, what a great ride!

eve is non instanced and single shared.
Star Citizen will not be. And i think ED uses instances too. there is the difference.
There are more, all beit the fact that SC is vaporware.
OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!
Yes i am optimistic about eve.. i'm giving it till dec 31st 2016 before i doom n gloom

Wow your really distasteful. However I will answer your question with another. Star citizen & Elite dangerous Do they have sovereignty, Incursions, variety when it comes to ships and counters? Star citizen isn't even out and there devs said they have might plan in the future for content to be released which eve is already out putting. So the real question is what do these threat level games like star citizen and elite dangerous have that eve doesn't? |

CCP broke it's trust to it's players? *checks CCP history this year* Um, Nope..... CCP have done amazing things this year, their visual project is running full steam and looking amazing. Also, discussing bans on the forums is a quick way for a lock, and a very very very dead horse. |

The same one it always had. It also has the distinct advantage that there are no other games like it, so the only threat against EVE is EVE itself.

Doesnt matter who the person was, nor asking for him to be un-banned.Don't know him ,nor care..Its the fact they did it..Its the one thing this game has capitalized on not doing ever..yet is has...Who's next??..Again..with that said..What gives this game a edge anymore? The fact you can do what every you want in a persistent wourld isn't true if you make to big of ripples.
So if a future player comes to the game thinking they cant be banned and they can do what ever they wish.. Thats a compiling reason to play. Its probably what drew us all to it to begin with- be honest.. Now if that 1 day old player also finds out that isn't the case anymore...Then what? Why play a 12 year old game vs a new one? |

EVE has ALWAYS banned people for breaches of the EULA & ToS. It's never been the case that you can do whatever you want and not get banned and there have always been players banned for their behaviour. Stop being delusional. |

Admittedly, CCP has been making some changes that are not popular for certain groups of people but are more or less good for the game overall. Take all criticism with a grain of salt. Sometimes it is just angst-filled hyperbole.

What edge does CCP have? - Single shard, persistent Universe (I know of no other game that does this). - Everyone affects everyone else for better and worse (harvesters affect builders, builders affect PvPers, PvPers affect harvesters and builders, etc). - The game is designed such that no one is truly "safe" or "immune" from unwanted player interaction. - Being in the game longer, having more stuff, more abilities, more/greater skills etc. does not give a clear or reliable advantage (ex. 10 rookies CAN potentially stomp/harass/interfere with a 10 year old veteran if they have a clear plan). - You can do things in this game that would get you banned in other games (ex. "suicide bombing," betraying your allies, stealing from your allies, selling intel to enemies, bribing in official tournaments, etc).
Gunn Yage wrote:Or did tell this year when it banned a player for taking the dark-side of eve to the extreme.. But by doing so it leaves a question and thus a doubt. That was last year if I remember correctly (the "Erotica1 incident"). And it did not set a precedent. It was merely a VERY extreme outlier of things that already occur in EVE that happened to get a lot of publicity.
NOTE: Even people who routinely do similar things largely agreed that the perpetrator took it "too far."

CCP often states that they take such things on a "case-by-case" basis. The "clear line" is still not "clear" and probably never will be as all interaction between any two people is never "clear cut." Some people are more sensitive. Some people are very hardened. Everyone has a different range of things that will set them off. And because of those things you can never scrub interpersonal interactions down to the point where no one is offended. Someone always will be.
That said, this truism comes to mind: "I don't know where the 'line' is, but when we cross it I'll know."

The only people who what an uncontrolled game and the cesspool it creates are the kind of people who categorically cannot function in an MMO, and which therefore are not a sensible group of customers to try to cater to.
If a future player comes to the game thinking they can't get banned, it's imperative that they understand immediately that their assumption is 100% incorrect. If they find abuse compelling, they need to seek help, not inflict it on others.

So don't list them plz, as its no longer true..1 time or 2k times, 1 is enough.
