Should a Typhoon with 1 mid-range Caldari ECM and crappy skills still be able to jam a Cerberus 3 times in a row? Discuss. ---------------------------- Buying Sabres. EVEmail or convo me in game! |

Edited by: Amarria Lightwielder on 03/12/2006 23:03:22 sounds like luck to me. I was trying to jam a caldari battlecruiser with the best caldari jammer and with most of the EW skills at lvl 4. I missed him 10 times in a row. IMO ecm is fine now, they work well on ECM boats (rook, falcon, scorpion etc), but if you rely on ECM on a non ecm-boosted ship you are running a chanse game with low chanse of success, wich is how it should be
edit: to put it another way, should a person be able to roll a 6 on a dice 3 times in a row? Yes if he's lucky. Will it happen every time? no --

Even if there is a 10% chance, there is still a chance of succeeding. It is still a chance systems. CHANCE SUCKS they may as well have a LUCK attribute added to the game.

ecm dont need a nerf they need a complete redesign but i cant think of one. ecm should be the same as strip miners/covert op cloaks where its impossible to fit on any normal ship but fits fine on the ships it was designed for.

What if ECM stayed as is, but ECCM was buffed? Say 400% sensor strength increase per mid slot mod for best named?

bad idea, one modlue should not complitley nulify an entire ship. don't go from one extreme to the other.

Personally I think ECM has been nerfed enough but I also think the caldari ECM ships need their ECM bonus increased to make them as strong as they were before kali and that they should get rid of the cruddy low slot ECM mod or perhaps that they should leave the bonuses as they are but make the ECM strength modifier a high slot module.
It seems that a lot of people have a problem with ECM being chance based and so on occasions extreme results are observed; for example one time in a thousand you may jam 20 times in a row or on the opposite side of the coin you may miss 20 times in a row. Personally I think the chance based system is good, I enjoy a bit of luck and variety. It is not the only part of the game that is chance based in any case - wrecking hits anyone?
I think that a varying ECM modifier would make the chance a little more predictable but not completely so. The way this would work is that for every miss then the ships ECM modifier would get a little greater and for every hit it gets a little weaker, the modifier could be reset at every session change. This would mean that extreme cases such as jamming 20 times in a row or missing 20 times in a row are extremely rare.
Basically it makes the jamming distribution curve narrower and therefore more predictable without removing the chance aspect altogether or changing the overall effective effectiveness of ECM.

Or like How most Amarr ships cry and scream due to sucking and needing tons of cap, and the Curse sucks tons of cap from ships while making them cry and scream due to getting wtfbbqed?
