I like all of the new info, but I dislike how it's implemented. The map is to dark and hard to read now. It takes a while to load, and it doesn't save flattened / unflattened.
It's a great idea, but I would rather have the old map back untill they get the new one in a usable condition. ---------- I gave up on sigs. As all the beatings are starting to hurt and leave nasty bruises. |

I like the new map. I just want options to turn off animations, transitions, and have it save my current view instead of showing my position relative to the rest of Eve whenever I open it.

Although the information available on the new map is nice, the implementation just doesn't seem to gel into the game like the old one did......and my computer's not exactly ancient, either!

Its true.. the new maps nice and all that but give us an option to avoid all the animations and jump right to the view, sometimes i really dont have time to wait for a zoom effect when a blobs warping in on me :)
Just the option at least, and please let us have the mini scanner pic back on directional scanner, it was good to check out what planets were close ect. I feel disorientated as it is.

The only problem I have with the new map is opening it when docked. Sometimes, it hangs and I have to log to fix it...
Other than that, I think the new map is great. Personally, I think they should do away with 'flat maps'. The universe isn't flat and the maps shouldn't be either. Spend some time with it and adapt. Open the systemmap and warp from item to item and just get a feel for it.
Eve is very 'figure it out or die'. So, figure it out...

What he said. I play on a laptop and have had no problems with the new map and I absolutely love some features of it (like the mouseover that actually tells you the system sec rating), but the animation, while cool, gets tired after a while. -- Liberty Network |

If you don't like the brightness what works for me is clicking the world map thing in the top right corner, or clicking local map or whatever the middle button is and then clicking world map again.

I think its stuipid to implent something that put a strain on computers that this game originally was designed to work for. All other aspects of EvE work excellent for me at best graphics. Must be one of the first games ever where its actually the map the puts the strain on the computer not the everyday battles, exploisions etc.
I'm sorry but I profusely disagree. If you desire to remain a part of the MMO community, then you need to keep upgrading your computer to match the times.
Would you bring a Model-T racer to a modern auto racing event? No. Then why would you complain when your out of date computer cannot process a modern game?
My upgraded and modern computer opens the new map perfectly and while I see no practical purpose in having a map that zooms in on my ship, it DOES give me a feeling of how massive EVE is and I love it.

Wow.... you win the moron of the day award!
If MMO's would only work on the high end computers CCP would only have a hand full of subscribers. Don't you think it's good for their wallet to make sure their product runs on as many machines as possible? Btw the answers you're looking for is "yes".

1) Don't put words in my mouth.
2) If you disagree, then do it professionally.
I never said that everyone has to have a cutting edge computer. What I did say, however, is that everyone does have to modernize with the times. EVE should not be played on the 1997 era computers that it was designed for.
This thread will quickly identify many people who are trying to play EVE on pre-turn of the century computers. They will be the majority of the one's /signing off on the OP's request.

If that were true, then why did CCP make the decision a few months ago to update the EVE client so that it would no longer run on Win98/ME?

Which map are you really talking about? The solar system map or the map of the universe? And which is old map are you refering to? Do you mean the system map in the scanner window?
If it is the map in scanner window then I don't agree. Never liked it. however I do miss being able to see which direction I am looking at with the green arrow but I have managed to direct my directional scans pretty well anyway.
I personally like the new system map a lot. Nice to see bookmarks etc directly on map.
The map over universe has always been hard to read IMO and is not any better now. I like that you can see what is in a system from the popup though. But still awkward to look around on the map (like it always been though).

signed as well, I'm not interested in sparkly and fluffy bits in a system I use very often, even less if it doesn't work correctly, is non-intuitive and lags me a lot more than the old system (which didn't lag at all).
On that same note, PLEASE bring back the system overview in the scanner window, the map is already annoyign enough, don't make me have to open it when I'm scanning... it lags a ton and I can't see what's going on when in mapmode.
A lot of good things came from Revelations, sadly the map isn't one of them.

Have to agree.
It is pretty and shining, but the usability seems far fetched.
My problem is "the wait" you have to do before you can acutally do something with it. Before it was "click" -> "loading" -> "use" Now its more like "click" -> "zoom" -> "rotate" -> "Flatten" -> "load" -> "use".
It has to either be faster doing all that, or we should be able to switch it off.
My two isk on that.

Also, like the new map, needs a fair bit of work, but when (if) it is fixed it will be better than the old one. ----------

There is a control that controls the speed of the zoom animation. I don't remember the exact settings but it was in one of the tabs. I believe the default is 'normal' but you could also set it to 'fast' and something called 'instantaneous' or something along those lines. Using the last option makes things very workable for me at least. Pretty quick too.

The flattening (or lack thereof) is horrible but hopefully a bug that is fixed soonÖ. The instant transition option only promises but does not deliver, even with it on my transitions are far from instant, on both my slowish desktop and my fast laptop.
But there are good things about the new map too!
Like, I never knew the F11 stuff even existed until I was forced to use it with Revelations
And finally it is an advantage to have my gear strewn about almost every system in the galaxy, I one-click navigate through my assets window now
(Note: There is some sarcasm here, I would indeed rather have the old functional map back) --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Link removed due to bad language on remote site. -wystler
