As an introduction, I have historically been a self-identified carebear. I started playing EVE a few years ago (this character was purchased). My first few months in, I was content mining/doing industry in high sec. I was amazed at the size of the universe, and was simply content flying around, exploring. Fast forward a few months. I was bored as all hell. I found myself logging in less and less. That led to joining up with a nullsec alliance. Now THIS was exciting. massive fleets, phat loot, *insert third witty comment here*. After a while, I found myself in one of two scenarios. One: ratting, making very, very nice ISK, but bored as all hell, or two: in a fleet, being an F1 monkey for an FC, and bored as all hell again. I see a pattern....
Fast forward to a few months ago. I start daytripping into WH space. I have a few accounts. I know how to scan. I will be fine! What do I have to lose? For a while it all goes well. I make ISK, I stealth-y my way around, and EVE is finally exciting. So I decide to set up a POS.
After two months of risk free living, I found myself growing confident, cocky even. I haven't died yet, I'm making ISK. This WH **** isn't that hard!
Reading the forums, two things jump out at me like a slutty drunk girl at a frat party.
1. Join a WH corp 2. For the love of all that is holy, don't take a small pos
Fast forward again to a few days ago and bubbles, bubbles, bubbles everywhere.
Logging in, a reinforced POS, bubbles all to hell, and one very humbled Sonya. But wait, I can beat this, right? What's a bubble anyway? Manticore-ing it up, I set about to take down those nasty bubbles, with predicted results.
Remember those two things I needed to remember?
I ignored both suggestions
Now you may be wondering, what's the point of this thread? What's this gorgeous woman even rambling about? I just wanted to introduce myself to the WH community, and say you've gotten me more excited about EVE than ever before since I started playing.
To the guys who relieved me of the burden of managing a POS, I'm putting a bigger one together as I type this, and thank you for taking an hour after it happened to covo me and explain WHs.
This thread will be updated with clueless WH newbie tales as they come.

Wow that's a nice post.
Your attitude was awesome, and you'll do well in wormholes.
You use a small with no defences and someone bored will eventually stront-check it, or worse. A couple of years ago if I found pos like that in our static I'd throw a few alts in there and spend a few hours semi-afk reinforcing it. Had been a long time since I've done it though, don't get quite that bored anymore. For your pos all I used was a pair of alts, one in a bomber with polarized launchers and a single navy vexor with sentries. Meanwhile continued playing my mains in other tabs, bringing them down to the hole to help finish up after the timer was up.
gf and sorry for the pos loss. When I asked you if this would turn you off WHs and you said no I was kinda relieved. Had you said otherwise I prolly would have left the pos because I'm really not that much of an ******** and we need more people in w-space. So good luck to you with your next attempt. GÖÑ

I'm of the opinion the best way to learn something is to jump into the deep end. As soon as it happened, I was in jita with another character buying a better pos. The uncertainty of what would happen with something like that was by far more exciting/fun than anything I have experienced in null in a few months. ISK is just ISK. losing it to stuff like this is a better investment than anything else in the game
look forward to seeing you again (friend or foe)! |

oh THIS is the eviction you were talking about Dusette... Didn't actually read OP just kanye-d it.
TO OP: your attitude is p danque, and as long as you're keen on going again and learning from your mistakes it's totes fine. It's definitely possible to live in a WH solo, and if you had even a medium with defenses on you would've been just fine. You definitely don't need to join a WH corp to do WHs, I've done it solo myself, but you do need to take some precautions regarding POS defense. If you take another crack at it with a medium tower, fully stronted, and with some defenses, I'm sure you'll do just fine. If you want to join a WH corp and not worry about it yourself, that's cool too.
If you need any help regarding WH setup/living/etc., feel free to shoot me a mail/convo me in game.

evicted? **** son, I still have a scanner in the hole! I will recover. EDIT: *immediately regrets saying this and begs Dusette to be merciful look for a C2 you can do way better than a C1>LS. If you still want the LS static then do a C2>2/LS, otherwise try and find an empty C2>3/HS. Finding an empty one of the latter may be a little difficult, and, depending on your skills, you may want to C2 static instead of the C3. If your skills aren't good enough to farm a C3, then go with the C2.
Having the C2 static will also give you plenty of chances to gank ****** carebears who run sites with drakes. Take a few cloaky alts hunting and you can have a p good time. C3 static will give you a lot of k-space exits. If you want to be a typical WHer then you can do C3 static and pray for null exits

Honestly, I found an empty C2/HS/C4 a week or so ago, but I know I don't know **** about WHs yet, so I didn't move in. I have a large dickstar ready to go now, so I'm ready for round 2 though.
Hope y'all like the taste of ECM in the morning |

a 4 may be a little much if you're unfamiliar, but with enough research you could overcome it. ECM is cool, but make sure to put guns too otherwise a bunch of ishtars can come in, drop drones, and just jerk off 'til your tower is dead

I have a dickstar with offlined guns ready to go, my first thought was that I shouldn't risk ISK on the large at first when I could test the waters with a small.
I was using the default "fly something cheap until you lose it" before investing in a large pos, which works very, very differently in WHs, apparently |

even just online guns on a medium will typically be enough to deter people from stront checking you in a C2. However, if people want your hole then it wouldn't be too hard to take it down. For the most part, medium POS+ guns will be okay.
Offline guns have some merit, but only work if you're online to online them. As you saw with Dusette, someone can RF your POS before you wake up.

I may have betrayed your trust and touched those while i was in Sketchy POS. It was worth it.
Also never mess with a Dusettte, they breed so rampantly soon they will overthrow us all. Although breeding with them is a viable compromise.

I have a full level 5 subsystem tengu with t2 HAMs or HMs, whichever is most appropriate at the time, so I'm not overly concerned with the difficulty of the sites. Right now I'm just trying to stay somewhere relatively backwater/unwanted (why I picked LS/C1 to start), so right now it's balancing the risk of orca-ing it through LS and less day to day traffic in the hole, or a HS static/less risk of hauling, but with more random visitors... |
