So i'm hoping i might get some tips/pointers from the WH dwellers in here regarding trying out WH life.
I've been an Eve player close to 5yrs now and tried pretty much every activity this game has to offer from Missions/ PI/ Market PvP through to being part of a Large Nullsec entity and buying/selling chars, but WH have always intrigued me. I've been playing Skill queue online for the last 12 months or so and now im getting the Itch back to play and want to finally try Wormholes.
Now, just from hearsay and reading forums a lot, i know you Wormhole players are a damn untrusting and twitchy lot, even more so than Nullsec players, so with my limited knowledge of WH life, what's the best way to try and live and earn a bit of Isk in a Wormhole? I dont really want to be a day tripper, i want to give it a real go and see if suits me and my play style AND it fits in with schedule as far as hours spent online, i figure this means trying to join a Wormhole corp already living in a hole, but just how difficult is that? Am i likely to be treated like a leper for 6months and kept at a distance until people start trusting me or is it not as harsh as i imagine?
I think i have the skills needed to live there, i do/did a lot of solo null sec exploration before i quit for a year so my scanning skills are good - if a little rusty - i still have gunnery to work on though but i wanted to test the water a little before actually making the effort to try it if im gonna be hitting brick wall after brick wall. Not sure it matters, but Isk making isnt my reason to try WH's, ive accumulated enough over the years to buy a Titan or two should i want to (which i dont) i think it's more for the excitement of no local, good fights ect and not the terribad blobs i used to take part in via nullsec.
All advice is appreciated!

so much wasted SP, but your basic skills are fine - work on gunnery
if you want to try it solo, you'll need a few alts
I heard Isogen5 is recruiting, they just aren't recruiting me :<

You need to join a corp. that pretty much it. But, let me try to be helpful to the total wormhole noob. So let us figure out what you are actually interested in.
So like.... wormholes break down into a lot of different things because every corp is different. Lets me do my best to overview wormholes 2015.
First we gotta figure out if you want high or low class wormholes. I live in high class so lets start there. (c5-c6)
1. 23/7 Farming. especially c6s. I would say about out of 10 my static is usually some farming corp or someones farming wormhole 5-6 times. If you want to join the isk making fountain and farm escalations all day while rolling your hole constantly just to see how high u can get your wallet to go, it is there for you.
2. The large pvp corps (150+ members): I havent been in a capital fighting pvp corp in a while (or ever if u wan2 be like that). But they are out there. This is the most fun you can have in a capital because there will be maybe 1 or 2 caps in your fleet (generally). You need to be really good because if you die, the fleet just lost one of the most important pieces. I dont want to try and sum up corps im not in, but i would warn you to be careful. something that these corps face is a lot of ppl trying to join because they want to be "elite". and then those people dont log in and do anything. They just want to get pinged to go frag a carrier and thats about it. it is really annoying and i think anyone in hk/lzhx/ssc can attest to how fuckin irritating that is. The good news is these corps are pretty well organized and have some really good people at the top, FCs, leadership ect. They have the most kills for a reason. Really do your research before applying, they arent going to be interested in you if you have no clue who they are and what they do. more importantly what makes them different from each other.
3. The small pvp corps (20-100 members). And there arent many in highclass space. They are genreally very willing to recruit you. There is a lot of total derping corps with no content and that are just horrible and some diamonds in the rough as well. This is the catagory I am in. The biggest thing I would warn you about these corps in the ones that run sites too much. You arent familiar with wormholes but... lets just say if you are interested in pvp and these guys want to roll all their holes to run sites every day, RUN. These corps are more interested in isk than fun. They might SAY they are a pvp corp but if they "have to run sites" they are a farming corp. PvP/content should come first. If PvE is more important than a potential fight, you arent in a pvp corp. This plagues high class space, particularly in small corps that need to focus on making content. I am going to skip the rant about all that for now. Capital pvp is a lot lower in corps like this so, keep that in mind.
==== Low class space: DISCLAIMER: i dont live here and havent for a long time, i dont really know what im talking about
1. Total derp corps that have no effin idea what the hell they are doing, and there are a lot of them. 2. A lot of decent c4 pvp corps that left highclass space in favor of more connections. I dont really know much here. 3. And way down there in low class space is the "low class" alliance. They are the biggest wormhole alliance in the game i thinkkkkkk., Anyway, worth mentioning. They take a lot of wormhole newbros.
Maybe this helps you get started, do your research and find out what corp sounds like the most fun. The biggest thing I think is to join a corp and be honest with yourself about how much fun you are having. If the corp is dead, or they are farming too much or there is some jackoff that is making you not have fun, leave early before you make yourself miserable. Obviously I think R3d Fire is the best corp ever, thats why im in it.
As far as your skills go it depends on the corp you are in. The only thing that is really required over all corps is a covert ops scanner.
idk i hope this helps... i just typed a lot of words. |

Train your gunnery skills. Other than that, find a competent WH corp and join it.

I am quite new to Eve, but I simply asked publicly if a corp was ready to let me move into their WH. Most people were laughing publicly about my idea, but I received some offers in private. So there are WH players who do trust others. Well, and now we are happy wormhole dwellers, living in our small POS with a garden and some flowers.
The best way to try is to try. Don't be too analytical. Join a corp, and start exploring. That is what I did after only 6 months of Eve. You state, you are financially independant. What is the problem, losing some ships and as part of the learning curve? Mail me, if you want to know more or even join us.

It's really not. A cursory look around will lead to finding several. WH recruitment is very much a self correcting matter; people will tend to end up in a corp that caters to their level of competence and mentality.

Really depends what people are looking for. Most folks who show interest in Iso5 gasp in shock when they're told we don't do any PVE or money-making as a corp whatsoever. "But .. but no C5 escalations!?!" lol. Every pilot needs to be financially independent and just wanting to login to join in some pew.
That alone wipes out a good 75% of applicants I'd imagine.
Which is a good thing.

I think a combination of PVE and PVPing sounds like what I would prefer. Too much of one thing leads to repetitiveness then boredom. |

I think most Corps in this position "HAVE" to run sites at least once a week, or gas ops. Being in a C5 and trying to recruit/maintain members, we have to cater to many play styles and wants. We also have to roll with the random people being AFK due to extended periods due to RL. The goal should be, imo, to run what you need to so you can lose ships with a care.
Hopefully we get to that point soon.......

Don't listen to the nay-sayers...you don't need a corp, a second account helps immensely though. It isn't hard, and it isn't magic. Learn how the wormhole spawn mechanics work, if you have patience, you can have your finger on the pulse, and know everything that happens.
If you can cross train two accounts efficiently, you can get about 150+mil/hr solo (in a c2)...with relatively low sp

We can be a twitchy bunch, mostly because we've all been through an eviction, a theft, a betrayal, a snipe, etc etc. Wspace requires quite a bit of faith in a recruit.
Eyeballing your skills, they are fine minus the absolutely no guns part. Your missiles are good (i know missile missile bla bla).. Think you can fly without crosstraining guns that all wormholers need.
You can fly a neut legion You can fly a ham legion You can fly a Ham/HM Tengu You can fly a ECMgu You can fly logistics (you have logi 5)
I honestly wouldn't bother cross training guns ATM, as you have the skills that all Wspace corps need, you can fly logi, ECMGu, Neut Legion, you can fly light and heavy dictors, you have Cyno 5 so you can be a black ops hunter. Your scanning skills are fine.
I wouldn't touch guns ATM. If there are any skills you want to go down that doesn't involve guns, I would go that direction first. You'll be able to fly something anybody wants at anytime. I wouldn't touch guns atm.
I'd focus on being a missile lobber, flying logi, being tackle, doing scanning. You don't have to go down the Guns path atm.
Just about everybody would say I'm crazy, but if you have another skill you want, I wouldn't do guns before it. An option/direction, Amarr Battleship 5 for a perfect Bhaalgorn (25 days).
Maybe then.. I'd do guns. If you don't feel comfortable flying a bhaalgorn and there are no other skills you need, go guns, but they are not a hard requirement. People will comment and say you need them, but 70% of the time, you'll be flying logi, a ECMgu, Neuts. Kitchen sink gangs you'll be flying whatever's cheap or maybe even Gilas (which.. yea missiles) or Cerberus (which is.. yea missiles).
Your skills are fine. Just about anybody would recruit you skill wise, knowledge and dedication/trust are another thing.
Yaay!!!!
