Most of the smaller Drifter groups are down, just one large formation of about 40 left. God bless all those who have fought the Drifter menace.
There were still 57 when I engaged with a Typhoon configured for extreme-range operation. Interestingly, the Drifters' standard weaponry was unable to inflict any damage beyond 150 kilometers. It wasn't until they closed to within 100 kilometers that their weapons were at all effective. Given this, it seems clear that high-sec drifter activities can be countered by high-speed sniper fleets, such as nano-mwd Orthrii configured for maximum range. At these ranges, the Drifters are utterly impotent. The package I'm currently looking at runs approximately 400 million per ship, and requires AC-603 and MP-703 implants. With off-grid boosting, the Othrus targets to 200km, which allows the fleet to begin firing early, and let the Drifters charge into the oncoming missile fire. I'd be concerned about the decided lack of defensive capabilities on the ship, but the Typhoon's only defense was a Damage Control Unit and a pair of reinforced bulkheads. So I sincerely doubt the cruisers would have much trouble avoiding the incoming fire.
Of course, this is only their normal weaponry, and does not include testing against their superweapon. |

That's been my experience as well - and given the defensive ratings of my Typhoon, it would have been vaporized instantly, similarly to a Guardian I watched destroyed that way in ZXB. I did take precautions, however, aligning the ship, locking target, and then giving the baseliner crew time to evacuate before beginning the test-firing. |

I have gone to the system to investigate. I saw traversals exceeding 3000 M/s. These things are very fast, they keep a tight formation and they do not just hang in one spot to be shot at.
Their formations were advanced, the kind that even experienced capsuleers have trouble with.

They closed on the Typhoon at roughly 3500m/s, which is why the Orthrus I've designed, with implants, boosts, and... and I really hate to admit this, a can of Quafe Zero... comes in at 3612. 3442 without the Quafe.
Note that they didn't attempt warping to a bounce, or any kind of complex maneuver. They simply gave direct pursuit. Whatever else they are, they are about as tactically adept as a new bee in a Rifter, out on his first hunt. At least, they are for now. |

We know the speed of their ships, and the range of their weapons. The only question I have left is: precisely how many pilots does it take to remove one of these things in a single volley?
Once I have that information, I'm good. |

Things are sketchy in the field. The Drifters have gone into some kind of passive mode, like they were waiting for something.
I was impressed by some of the Amarr loyalists and their ingenuity. I saw three Apocalypse battleships wade into a small fleet of Drifters, let loose smart bombs, and take out the Drifters' overshields. I saw thousands of souls instantly leave this world in a fire for this effort. The Drifters, their overshields gone, were then destroyed easily.
I'm not much for faith and royalty but I think the Empress would be proud. I don't think this coming war will be one sided. It's going to be a war of metal versus faith, indifference versus zeal. Human life by itself won't be the greatest casualty here.

I had some spare time when I heard about the Drifter presence in Safizon, so I flew in to check it out.
Arrival in Safizon
I did manage to take a lot of photos, because, as usual the Drifters were very peaceful. There were over 30 Drifters at the gate I entered.
At least, towards me.
The Ammar Navy then warped in and engaged them. They were wiped out in seconds. I don't know why they engaged and I asked my superior in the 24th Imperial Crusade if she wanted me to attack the Drifters. She seemed unconcerned and told me she needed me to wipe out some illegal stargates in tribal territory and wanted me back in twelve hours.
So it was none of my business. I started orbiting around one of the Apollo ships and took photos.
Suddenly I thought I did something wrong because they abruptly aligned all at once, startling fast. They warped away to another gate. I was a little scared at that point but I followed them. Now the group of Drifters was numbering more than a hundred.
Someone decided to try and kite them in comms. CVA and PIE were attempting to coordinate an attack, which I said was a really bad idea. I don't answer to either of those organizations. I didn't know what was going on at that point, whether the Navy had been commandeered by a rogue FC or it was another kind of operation.
It was clear that the Drifters only fired on people who fired on them first. I sat on top of one of them for about twenty minutes to see if it would attack me. I hailed it on the ships comms and talked to them about the Amarr religion and tried to show them some hospitality, because they are travelers and deserve hospitality.
So then the Bob Fundamentalists showed up in chat. They are really annoying and all they say is "All praise Bob" and that made me really angry because they were in Amarr space and what if the Drifters were judging our religion. I don't want them to hear that. So I was forced to read out of my prayer book to counteract it.
Something happened and an Oracle pilot announced they would be attempting to harass and kite a Drifter at the station. They form a circular formation and shoot laser-like beams at the target. This Oracle pilot ran back and forth at the station for over an hour I lost count. The beams are very strong they can obliterate a ship in seconds, but he was quite fast. I will also note that many people were following the Drifters and were not being targeted by them. because they did not fire on the Drifters. The Drifters are precise and single minded in their attack.
They were acting in self defense.
This went on for over an hour or so like I said.

http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Golden/drifter-25aug1.jpg
A lot of people were saying terrible things in local about the Empress not showing up and the Bob Fundamentalists were going berserk. Someone set up a channel to welcome the Drifters. I went in to talk about it, and took a ship control shot to show the precise circular formation they made.
Suddenly they all aligned to a gate and shot off. They split off in different directions and mostly sat their peacefully without engaging any capsuleers who did not engage them.
At this point the CVA and PIE fleets

PIE and CVA lost their ships because they fired on the Drifters, that was their choice, there is no order to fire on them from 24th proper. The militias can do what they want, whenever they want including stupid stuff, I don't have that luxury of choice. Go ahead and run around doing whatever you want in PIE and see how long your superiors put up with it.

You're incredibly foolish if you still believe the drifters are peaceful and "acting in self-defense" after they have invaded and attacked Amarr Navy forces twice now. There are more ways than one to defend the Empire. Observation, study and contemplation, both religious and scientific, is one of those. As the Empress said:
Quote: We believe the threat posed by Drifter forces to be contained. We continue to study these... creatures. Their origins are unknown, but they are certainly no product of the LordGÇÖs work. I see no contradiction in fighting a threat and studying it. If both can be done at the same time, and if it serves a higher purpose, it is laudable. Yet, even if some decide to fight and others to observe, I see no need for insults. Here, we shall all be on one side.
I have been in Safzion myself. Both yesterday and this morning, when the last Drifter battleship was removed. I have not been there on the orders of any alliance or corporation, but following my strong desire to fight against a threat that shows respect to neither imperial nor international law and intrudes into sovereign space. This alone, regardless of other implications, demands a strong answers, as does the aggression of the Tribal Liberation Force.
Let us never forget that we are all first and foremost servants of the Lord. We follow His orders. Many will feel tempted to elaborate their names for what they have done, and not the LordGÇÖs name, for what they have been allowed to do. I am tempted myself. But let us never forget: We follow His order because we are His servants.

The order comes from Empress Jamyl (my emphasis):
Empress Jamyl wrote: Today however, we face a new threat. A threat far greater than the foolish aspirations of a lesser race who remain unwilling to accept their true place as servants of His will.
A threat not created of the LordGÇÖs work. An abomination that reared its head as one of our oldest and most valued capsuleer loyalist organizations, Curatores Veritatis Alliance, celebrated while at ease from combat duty.
While we do not yet understand the motives of this force, their intentions, or their will, the Drifters must be regarded as a threat, and the Empire must ensure that her borders remain secure.
The presence of so many of our finest loyalists here is a sight to behold. A sight that fills the hearts and minds of the people of the LordGÇÖs domain with hope.
For your support, the Empire remains eternally grateful.
Together we will show those who attempt to defy His will that the Wrath of God is immense. His Justice is swift and decisive. His tolerance is limited.
It is clear that Her Majesty wishes her subjects to prioritise the Drifter threat over the Shakorite menace. That's not to say that the war against the TLF and their patsies should be ignored - but given the choice between two targets the primary objective is clear.

As a Gallente with a strictly academic interest in the Drifters, I can't help but wonder a few things about the recent events in Safizon. We see, time and again these "unprovoked attacks" in the wake of events which can easily be regarded as threatening. The attack on Sarum Prime is one. Two Amarrian loyalist fleets assembling in one system could appear as a rallying of troops in preparation for an attack. Hence the assault by the drifters. And this week with the destruction of the SoCT vessel and its pilots pod, followed swiftly by the largest assault to date. We know there is a connection between the Jove and the Drifters, so how can we be so na+»ve as to think these events are not connected?
The evidence is there. The faked requests by Hilen Tukoss for jovian body parts was followed by the presence of the drifters becoming public. We know Tukoss was unable to make those requests, so the logical assumption is it was the drifters. Their interface technology is merely an extension and advancement of jovian capsule technology. The connection is there. So for the impetuous empress to fire on, and destroy, a Jove ship should leave none of us surprised at the results.
May we all weather the coming storm. |

So if Roden decides to to assemble a fleet, does that give the Caldari the right to invade?
The Empress has determined that they are a threat. "Loyalty" by definition, means that we of the Empire trust that she is making the right decisions, even if she is not entirely forthcoming with specifics. If the Drifters feel "threatened" by non-aggressive military actions that are designed to provide our citizens with extra security, then maybe she is right in her assessment of them as a threat?
The same goes for the SoCT. They were ordered to stand down. They didn't. They died for their disobedience. Harsh, yes. But given the nature of these emergent threats, is it better to be harsh, or to damn millions of innocents do to inaction? If this action provoked the Drifters to again attack, what does that say about them?
We are on the verge of war. We, as a species, are threatened. That Amarr seems to be on the front lines may be nothing more than a strategic decision to remove the greatest threat first, before the rest of humanity can mobilize. Such arrogance does not serve the Amarr well, and you are not the greatest threat. All four Empires working together would be the greatest threat. The Drifters could have decided to pick New Eden apart by starting on the Empire they considered weakest first.
I do not believe that is the case though, this is something 'personal' to the Drifters and they appear to be abiding by some form of rules of engagement by only taking on military vessels. Your Empire and/or Empress have done something specific to draw this attack and until I know the reasons for it I am actually willing to give the Drifters the benefit of the doubt. |

Some-one did note but i am unsure of this but if the pilot of a drone ship is the one to get the attention of the super-weapon it is not aimed at the ship but instead one of the drones, If this is true then we may have a way of fighting them to minimal value loss.

This, unfortunately for Dr. Tukoss, means that he requested Jovian body parts long before his Buzzard was blown up by, according to Scope released footage, Drifters.
Would it not make sense that for a Drifter to need a Jovian body part before the Caroline's Star collapse they couldn't have captured Dr. Tukoss? That means that the Jovian Directorate was still alive, and are responsible for the death of Eifyr and Co. employee and former Caldari Citizen Dr. Tukoss.
Is it possible that Dr. Tukoss attempted to interface with the Sleepers in wormhole space and was then used to obtain the body parts followed by his corpse being deployed at the hives alongside the Drifters?
Dr. Tukoss was researching the Sleepers (and other matters) after all, that's how a lot of Capsuleers in New Eden met him and heard of him, may he rest in peace. |

I-- what?
Alright. In the first place, this is a bit of a tangent from the thread.
In the second place, reports at the time of the footage's release indicate that it was at least six months old at that time, which would put the latest Tukoss could have been killed at YC116.11.15 or so, but possibly as long as a year before the release.
Considering that the messages from Hilen Tukoss began at YC116.10.24, continuing at YC116.11.04, and then took a strange turn at YC116.11.04, I think it's fairly safe to say that if Tukoss's infomorph did somehow manage to survive the destruction of his body, that it is not free. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if the Vigilant Tyrannos method of suborning his access to CONCORD-mediated services required-- well, to be honest, I can't theorize. I just won't be surprised at anything the Tyrannos do with infomorphs, I suppose.
In any case, considering that we haven't so much as seen a member of the Directorate in the better part of a decade, I'm not exactly sure how you're laying this at their feet.
Please. If you're going to engage in conspiracy-mongering, at least try to make it sensible.
