After finding this bit of news in the EVE Community, I thought it would be a good idea to create a thread of general discussion for the Drifters, their actions in High-Sec, and speculation on where their storyline may go next.
I have already seen screencaps and rumours regarding Drifters Incursions becoming a part of EVE Online, and I am now starting to wonder if the increased Drifters presence in the game means that players will eventually be able to gain access to Drifter ships in one of the later updates.
If that is the case, I must say that I joined EVE at a time of great change.

Well, the previous expansion on the Sleeper story was the Arek'Jalaan storyline, which was the lore lead-in for Dust 514. That gave us Dust and the FW interactions, but I can't think of any other EVE content spawned from it at the moment. Before that, the Sansha live events served as an introduction to Incursion mechanics, after which the live content stopped.
I am hoping that the Drifter story will be more lore-intensive (ya I'm a nerd) and progressive, but am not quite sure what it will lead to. So far it has been the mechanism to introduce Fozziesov's Entosis Links and more in-depth exploration content. Based on some of the structures found in the Drifter wormhole systems, it seems possible/likely that they will contribute toward the introduction of new player structures such as small Citadels and perhaps even player-built stargates.
Depending on the stages of development they are in, the Drifter story could also serve to introduce aspects of EVE Valkyrie and possibly EVE Legion.
I'm not sure what other new material can come from it. The Tech III destroyers are almost universally being slammed as nearly game-breakingly overpowered, and there isn't really an obvious place for new ship classes (though the Auctoritatis may be the basis for some new faction BS) or new weapons. Also :

Personally I would like to see a lot more expounding on the lore, but the fact is that it's a fairly small percentage of the playerbase that cares about that and therefore unlikely to be a major development focus. |

Seriously. After the track record of broken promises over the years we've had from CCP does anyone believe this Drifter stuff will be turned up to eleven?
CCP is superb at coming up with gameplay ideas. They haven't always been so great at actualizing those ideas or bringing them to full fruition.
Now. Search your feelings. You know this to be true. With CCP, past is prologue. It just is.
Play the game we've got now. It's totally awesome in a lot of respects. I love it. A lot of us do. But, please, don't ever hold your breath waiting on CCP to actually come through with anything other than something ephemeral and watered down. Because that's what we almost always get.
Drifters? Awesome concept. Superb. Fantastic. But who here honestly believes CCP is going to come through with the promised goods?
Anyone?
Bueller?
Bueller....?
Bring your possibles.

Dun'Gal > Hal is simply an imperfect ai, though if drunkeness ever gets programmed into ai's I foresee both a hilarious and tragic end to humanity.

If CONCORD ships were ever made available, the entire line-up would be made up of Tech 3 ships that require all four of the primary Factions to be trained to a certain level as well as certain skills in order for you to use them. Given how they can obliterate any player if they break the law in High-Sec, you bet those guys would be OP. |

Hell yes.. But not with pvp/combat bonuses. Hull bonuses to every type of scanning, ship scanning, cargo scanning. Extra range and strength. A new hull dependent module that when activated tractors all corpses to your ship and scoops them to your cargo.
Just fun little things to add a bit more variety for fun. |

Drifter ships available to players?
During the early days of Drifter sightings I suspected that they were the positted clone-less (possibly skill-less) account type. They seemed like a pretty good method; a single ship-type with a very broad engagement envelope, go round and harvest corpses until you die - and when your ship's hull HP reaches 0... thanks for playing.
The super-weapons are (IMHO) too powerful for that role however, and I can't think of a way of making them difficult to acquire which isn't farmable... |

Aside from the method I mentioned above (training all faction ship skills to a certain level), the alternative I can think of is to have a new skill exist for Drifter ships with its own requirements, with the ships themselves needing skill requirements equivalent to a Tech 2 or a Tech 3 ship, with the Drifter Super-weapon requiring its own skill, like the Titan Doomsday. |

Nah, they would likely be more like the Gnosis. They would look the part, but would likely have stats to match any other existing player ship. That said, I doubt adding them in any fashion or degree to the already bloated list of player ships is even an afterthought in CCP's minds.
Interestingly, though, the Gnosis is in a way arguably the very best example of what T3's should have been and be more like from the start -- capable of doing anything, master of absolutely none of them beyond the aforementioned advantage itself. Sadly, the very same people to come out with something like that ship would later get it wrong for a second time.
"Tomahawks?"
"----in' A, right?"
"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."
"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Well, I suppose what happened most recently definitely counts as Drifter-related news. A fleet of 200 Drifters wiped out the Seraph, podded Jamyl, and her body is nowhere to be found. I've been hearing whispers that whatever is sharing space inside her head might be connected to the Drifters as well. What better way to gather intel on enemy forces than to place a sleeper agent on the throne of the Amarr Empire? |
