I'll freely admit this is a blatant ad for my other topic: Tier 2 Command Ships
However, people are also floating around the idea that there in the future there might be tech 2 battleships. Problems with this is primarily the fact that you have to give them starkly different roles from current battleships, else they run the risk of treading on the same ground and rendering them downright obsolete (or any other smaller-than-capital ship, for that matter).
Any ideas?

There is 3 BS its gonna be taugh choice. My guess would be More gang related stuff. maybe we will see more gang modules. Bonuses to damage instead of just tank. too many maybes.
Bottom line is, this T2 bs has been promised for RMR, than KALI, and now who knows? If i was CCP i would be creative and bring out a new module. maybe give them the ability to make a bubble that looks like dictor bubble. But instead of getting scrambled by it, it will give you bonuses to ECM, or ECCM or dmg, or tank, or whatever. Different advantage to each race.

Just as the roles of frigates and cruisers were re-organised before the introduction of their T2 versions, I imagine that they will do the same with battleships.

The devs repeatedly stated that there wont be a T2 BS until they find a role for one.
The only time a T2 BS was announced, the dev rowed back quickly and corrected that to tier3 BS.
Now that T2 is basically of the same use as T1, the way to T3 is wide open. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

The best way to have Tech 2 Battleships is to have Flagships. Basically these would be battleships with no damage bonuses of any kinda and resistances only slightly higher than a tech 1 battleship but it would have uber gang bonuses. The ship would be basically there for nothing more than to give the rest of the fleet its bonuses 25% more to armour or shields etc. Though as someone posted before I do like the idea of this type of BS to have a jump drive and even the jump bridge that titans have. Although that would run the very big risk of making it very of overpowered in that respect. John MacCoy

Shield bubble?
Very useful for escort duty - currently nothing can stop a sufficiently determined enemy from killing your indy or transport ship. However, with a tech 2 BS as escort, protecting you inside a battleship-scale shield bubble, they'd have to at least pull down its shields first.
Or maybe an area-effect cloak with a twist. It doesn't stop you seeing the ships inside; it just stops you locking them and breaks the lock if a targeted ship flies into it. Another way of protecting vulnerable ships, or giving other ships in the fleet a respite (for repairs or cap recharge, maybe?) in combat.
Just my 0.02 isk.

comparable grid/CPU/resists with tech 1 battleships but Twice the weapon hardpoints (lower weapon fitting requirements/weapon energy consumption per level)
On second tought, sounds more like an anti-battleship capital ship
