This is one of those "just to see if I can" ideas :)
I took my Thrasher and decided to see if I could get the highest tracking I could with an autocannon. I put some tracking comps and a 125mm gatling II on it (base tracking 0.395), and ended up with a tracking of something like 1.04 - I'm still a long way to go to get my skills to max also.
So forgeting about civilian weapons (which start with a tracking of 0.5 or something) how high have other people had their tracking? Is it worth taking out of a theoretical environment? Does having a huge tracking on weapons give you a significant advantage of more excellent hits?

You see, this thread isn't a whine/boost/nerf and doesn't contain a random crap setup, so I doubt you'll get many replies. Nice idea though :)
Tracking does indeed have an effect on your hit quality. However, it's not enough of an effect alone to go for tracking over all else. For example, your 125mm with uber tracking will still be outdamage by a 150mm or 200mm AC, which track worse, due to their better dps.
Tracking does have some advantages - there are of course some situations where a lower tracking, higher DPS gun simply won't have the tracking to hit at all - but in general, like most eve mods, it's a balance thing. Whether that uber tracking is worth losing the range and damage of a bigger autocannon is a decision dependant on your fitting and the situations you intend to take your ship into.

I need a whine? er, ok.... NERF PODS! NERF TOBACCO! NERF LAG!
Anyway, I'm guessing a higher tracking doesn't give you more wrecking shots, as I vaguely recall it's a percentage chance of the hits you do have or something.
If you take into account the likely misses you'll have from a 200mm against frigates (for example), does it still work out that they have better DoT above the 125mm? The bigger the ship the less tracking becomes important I imagine, so if I expected to face cruisers upwards, I'd switch in 200mm ... otherwise if I was going against ceptors maybe stay with the 125mm's ?
