Some ideas for ship classes that could be added to make things interesting. Any ideas for others?
Q Ship: An industrial frame turned into a combat ship. Sacrifices a large amount of cargo room for better shields, armor, and armorment. Designed to surprise pirates going for an easy kill.
Blockade Runner: An Industrial that trades space for speed. Probably shielded against scanning depending on the level to help for runs through Empire Space.
Corvette: Not sure where this might fit in, being one of the classic ship categories. Possible as an assault Destroyer?
Pickett Ships: Frigates or Cruisers with bonuses to tracking and scanning.

1. Q-ships is an interesting idea. I think it will be quite difficult to design though since you'll have to look exactly like an industrial/transport (though it's "charade" should be foiled by a module scan). 2. We already have blockade runners. The Prowler, Prorator and Crane for example. 3. Stop thinking about "classic ship classes". Start thinking about "ship roles". Besides it's a bad name. The traditional Corvette has always been a vessel smaller than the Frigate. 4. Designing a ship for pickett duty is more about the modules than the ship.

Nice idea, but may cause problems (it would have to appear as a hauler).

We have these, except that they give scram resistance rather than scan resistance.

Not sure about this, but we need assault destroyers. Not sure whether the name would apply though.

Edited by: yunger on 05/12/2006 17:43:07 How about a smal scale capital gunboat.
somthing in the lines of -1.5 times the size of a bs -Able to use gates -not that much more hp/grid/cpu then a bs -uses large guns -has a shorter range then bs and a slower lock time -about 1000-1300 m3 cargo -wery limited drone use or no drones at all -Able to use a smal siege module. -Low agility and low warp speed. -no weapon bonuses on any of the ships, only deffens bonuses. -somekind of ship class nerf that means you will be better of with a bs then this ship without the smal siege module.
2 kinds of smal siege modules. A anti bs and a anti capital Anti bs stats -20% shorter max range. -70% more damage -about 20% increase in shield/armour boost amount per cycle -large enouge increase in signature resolution to make it inposable to hit frigs/ cruiser sized ships and make you even have a chance of missing battleships. -nerfs the tracking so you can basicly spinn around the ship in a bs without being hit if close enough. -cycle time 60 sec -uses about 50 strontium per cycle
The anti capital siege module would have even more damage output but even worse signature resolution nerfe.
summary: A med range snipper with zero short range deffens capabilty and zero smal ship deffens while in siege. And more tank but much lower damage output/speed/agility then the bs. And big dependent on strontium meaning a risk of running out of it while in battle
edit: hunted out some of the spelling errors

My few cents worth:
Battlecarriers: Drone and Fighter carriers but with a few turret slots (small or medium) so that its not totally dependant on its drones/fighters. Usual carrier bonuses for drones/fighters but also for turret tracking speed and prehaps a bonus for the use of Denensive missiles.
More Destroyer variants for the 4 races.
Industrial ships with more turret slots (2-4) as opposed to the current 1 slot.
Ditto with transports, maybe 1-2 small turret slots for self defence.
