Been messing around with a few "Anti-inty" Rifter fits and to be honest the ship isnt as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
150MM Autocannons Rocket Launcher
MWD Scram MSE (meta 4)
DCU SAAR Gyro
Small Ancil Current Router tech II damage rig
175 DPS overloaded 3km/s base speed 4K tank plus SAAR charges no web means range control problems, but the extended falloff bonus mitigates this somewhat.
This fit meant for any interceptor fighting only.

Not totally dissagreeing..but.. At 3k your gonna have problems catching kitey intys if said pilots know how to fly ..and.. I don't think you will succed in killing brawling intys because no web to help apply proper dps ..and some of them can actually tank pretty good , ranis , malediction , sig tanking minnie intys.
Good luck though

Maybe drop the saar and put 2 falloff rigs? Fit an overdrive as well. You'd get 12km with short range ammo (80% ~7k) and 18k with barrage. |

Yeah... you can still make fits for them but they aren't as good as they once were. Everything in EVE gets it time at the top and then gets knocked down.
That's just how it goes. |

I dont know if its a thing, but there are some fits that may do well with a dual tank (or even triple tank, hull rigs) setup.

Try a hull tanked catalyst with a SAAR. its got a real good tank and is of course a great brawler.

Hull tank + AAR has been Gallente fitting 101 for the past 6 months at least. Tristan, Comet, Atron, Algos are all commonly fit this way. |

As above hull EHP with AAR is common on Gal frigs due to new bulkhead rigs having no drawbacks.
Breacher also performs really well with dual tank (ancil shield booster plus AAR). |

Rifter is indeed underrated, but it's not easy to fly. It requires correct ammo choice, manual piloting, and some mind games to make it shine.
My Rifter is equipped with the following:
Quote:[Rifter, Petrus Blackshell's Rifter] 200mm Crystalline Carbonide Restrained Plates Damage Control II Small Ancillary Armor Repairer
5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I DDO Photometry Tracking Disruptor I,Tracking Speed Disruption Script
'Malkuth' Rocket Launcher I,Caldari Navy Scourge Rocket 150mm Light AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet Fusion S 150mm Light AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet Fusion S 150mm Light AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet Fusion S
Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I
Still 3 km/s (with my skills, at least), and the buffer is 4k, with AAR adding another ~2k EHP if heated. Cold damage is 136 DPS, which is not awful (but not really amazing either).
I have been away from Eve for several months, but before that I was able to fight toe to toe against most frigates, interceptors, and evensomedestroyers. I also nearly solo'd this Svipul too, shortly before quitting.
The tracking disruptor is key:
- If facing a target with damage projection, or with guns that already track badly (e.g. arty), or is oversized: load tracking disruption script, overheat it, and hug their face. That is actually how I killed those destroyers. To effectively face-hug, you will need to pilot manually to continually be almost bumping them but not quite.
- If facing a target with great tracking, but poor range, reverse and try to stay at the edge of scram range. If they have webs, this may be hard. This tactic also works when going in for tackle on something that could potentially incinerate you on the approach (e.g. an Oracle or Tornado).
- If facing someone without turrets (like a Crow or Condor), TD them anyway. I've found that them believing I am incompetent leads to them getting cocky and sloppy in their kiting, which lets me sling out and either escape or scram/kill them.
- Stay away from things fitted with rockets.
- Stay away from drone boats. Rifter losing its tracking bonus means it does not have a fun time with drones if it does not have a web (which this one does not).
RIFTER 4 LYF
Edit: Also, overheat everything, especially guns, the launcher, TD, and SAAR. Overheat MWD and scram for tackle. Seriously. If you are not overheating, you should have a good reason (and that reason usually does not exist).

I think you misunderstand. When people say it's bad, they mean badass.
Pirate ship Nightmare, can you fathom
Larger but with smaller spikes than Phantasm
The Succubus looks meaner
But the Revenant cleaner
Seems as they get bigger, the smaller spikes they has'm

Don't get why you'd never use falloff rigs on a rifter.
If your breakpoint for 80% turret damage ends up at a nice 9km-10km mark, that's a huge plus over a lot of other turret ships. Without the falloff rigs, about the only other choice is polycarbs. You end up being the one of the fastest, if not the fastest AB t1 frig with decent agility. allowing you to control range within ~6-6.5k. |
