Eve has been constructed to be flexible enough in order to cater to a variety of playstyles. There is wide room for players to adapt, while still room for new ideas to be integrated into the code. The best medium imo.
Some people react too quickly but that's a not phenomenon just in the Eve community but everywhere. Things get a tad overblown, mostly because many criminal types are becoming immature rather than diabolical. I used to mine in a system plagued by ore thieves, but out of 100 mining expeditions only had my can swiped once. He opened chat with me and we entered into a 45-minute negotiation for the contents of the can, finally agreeing on 75% of market value. Sure I got ripped off for my work, but in hindsight it was the best 45 minutes I had experienced in the game so far. Instead of throwing a hissy fit I pulled no stops into my negotiation skills (trained for in RL) and came out with a reasonable outcome.
So if a pirate were to initiate chat and say: "I have found you in space and will proceed to make your life difficult, unless you pay x amount" and is open to negotiation to x, it's awesome. If the guy just warps in, types "rolfmao" in local and proceeds to aggro all of Mordu's headhunters on you for no apparent gain, that sucks. Gaming is about the experience, and in an MMO the experience may be complex because more than one person feeds into it. Just be respectful of the other person's experience. You can still grab them by the balls and squeeze though!
And how often will this happen anyway? If a predator kills too many prey the prey adapt and stop coming. It's in the best interest of the predator to chill out then and moderate how much they rip people off.

Being a pirate should be about making profit off of other people, not destroying them just because you can.
My ferox is worth 25 million to me. Minus insurance, equipment, time and effort, I would gladly pay 5 million to keep it. Blow me up, and you'll be lucky to make over a million on the parts that drop.
On top of that, instead of just blacklisting you, I'd probably end up respecting you for your ability to 'grab me by the balls and squeeze' So you get my isk, I get my ship, and everyones happy.

Real pirates have always ransomed. Its the weekend warriors who play when they're not in school who just kill indiscriminatly -----------------------------------------------

Get a clue.
To be honest, I can't blame pirates when they deal with people that logoff to try and save their ships, or stall in negotiations like that while they bring in backup for local. An earlier point of "pirates try to make money" is what drives them to kill you, they'd rather get your nice fittings and a shiny BOOM rather than have you slip away or kill them. You are right that some just don't care about money and just want to grief/kill you for the hell of it, but don't indiscriminately define pirates as those who only ransom.

Why not? They specified "Real Pirates" in their statement, they can define pirates in any manner they see fit, just as you can define them too. Is either side wrong? No, its just opinion. My own view? Pirates worth a damn will ransom, the ones that have a hard time figguring out the math just go for the kill instead.
