My security status is, -0.1. I thought I would try to increase it by doing some NPC ratting in low security space. I decided to go there in my meg, as I found some of the spawns difficult in ships smaller than a cruiser.
I arrived through the gate in the system. There was 4 other players online, O opened a local channel. ôAny Hostiles here, whatÆs the situationà.ö Almost five minuets past before I got a reply. Using that time it granted me, I looked at the information on the ships and capsuleers in the system. Odd, 4 players from the same corp. None of them had a security status below 0.0 so I thought nothing of it. ôIts clear, we destroyed a pirate about 1 hour ago! Hey, while youÆre here why donÆt you join us, we are looking for some one to fill the gap, two of our men just docked for dinner. What do you say?ö I thought about there offer, something didnÆt seem right. Some thing said trap all over it. Giving into my senses, I rejected there offer. ôNo thanks, IÆm not here for too long. Thanks for the heads up.ö With that I immediately drained my cap, and warped in-between the near by planet and the star gate. I was in the middle of no where. I was safe.
1 hour passed. I had already ventured out of the safe spot, destroying low level NPCs. A channel opened up. ôYou still here, why donÆt you join us, it will be worth your while!ö My wallet started to flash, 20 Mill. Geese these guys are seriously not pirates. I mean, who would pay some one to destroy them. I accepted the money and they linked their Neocom with the gang interface. Big mistake, I pretty much sealed my fate.
ôWhere are you Evan?ö he persisted ôIÆm ratting ill be there in a secondö I replied. ôNo where are you?ö ôI ll be there in a sec, I got 4 guys on me, give me a sec and ill come.ö
I had 4 low level rats surrounding my ship. I started to attack the biggest one, who indecently couldnÆt even scratch my shield. Then it happened, I can only tell you the following in this way, otherwise you will not get the speed in which it happened.
0 Sec - Lord Evan locks rats surrounding his ship. 10 Secs - Lord Evan attacks ships, getting the large battleship down to half shield. 15 Secs - Lord Evan is warp scrambled by rats, targeting is jammed and has been status webbed, (current speed aprox 40m/s). 20 Secs - Lord Evan Notifies gang of his status and requests help. 25 Secs - Gang warp in. 2 BS, 3 Cruisers and 4 Frigs. 30 Secs - Gang start to lock Lord Evan 35 Secs - Lord Evan is warp scrambed by 3, jammed by 2, status webbed by2 energy nulled, by 2. 40 secs - Lord Evans Shield is at half (Meg with 20k Shielind) 60 Secs - Lord Evans Armour starts to fall, all the time trying to warp out. 1 Min 30 û Lord Evans Armour is at 10% ( Meg with 35k Shield ), Armour tanked well if it wasnÆt 8-9 agaisnt 1. 2 Min - Lord EvanÆs ship destroyed 2Min 1sec - Pod Targeted. 2min 10 Sec û Pod Destoyed.
The moral of this story, do not trust security status, or any one you do not know already in low sec. It is lawlessà.

Edited by: Soraya Kha''marr on 08/12/2006 19:51:31 lol, im sorry that was just the most obvious trap of all. why send 20mil? no point except to attempt to gain your trust, which was unnecessary. to sum it up: the wannabe-anti-pies (you had -0.1 remember? deemed hostile) did badly, who sends someone 20mill to gain their trust? you did badly, why the heck would you gang with anyone you dont know or is 'neutral'? in low sec, anyone without blue standings (and you need to check up on those as well) is hostile until deemed safe. in fact, why did you even talk on local? you have toughly two minutes while cloaked after jump-in. thats plenty of time to check info of four people and do a scan to determine if any of them are close and what the might be in. however it was you got that negative sec status, i can tell you it must have been luck.
This space is mine, mine alone!!!oneoneeleven! (You can rent it for cookies though.)

Was it lowsec or 0.0 ? It is foolish to rat in 0.0 when you're not alone...
I was attacked in a lowsec belt by a positive sec status player once , though - that person had been ganked too many times that week and thought of my yellow flagged ship as a good venting opportunity... that's how I lost my first cruiser

Lmfao, someone had said on this forum that it would come down to this, i.e. pirates paying carebears so they can kill their ships...well i can't believe it is actually happening and i think it is pretty sad. I feel sorry for them pirates and kinda mad that they have become so lazy...and no , i don't feel sorry for you cause what you did was just silly...
Number 1 rule in Eve: Never ever ever ever ever trust someone you do not know ;) Biggest example is MMX or whatever his name is, who lost a Navy Raven to a dominix because he wanted to help someone out in a mission...If you want friends that help you go join a corp and don't trust every stranger you meet...Hasn't mommy taught you not to accept candy from strangers?

Considering how rapidly you can gain security status in 0.0, the idea that "Mr. Doe has a sec status of 5.0 and must be a pillar of society" is a bit *****ed.
Got a -10 status and have things to do in empire? Grab your friends, head to 0.0...wah lah...exit shiney and new...with concord throwing you flowers. ________________________________________________ 0.0 Come fly with us...

was your ship insured? If so.. with the insurance buy a new one and with the 20mil they sent you.. get some new guns =) basically those people just wanted a killmail to post on their killboard. probably tell their friends "Look at our board... we got a bs today! HAHA we're the dad's danglies ain't we?! we even ganked him 8 vs 1.. and gave him 20mil to join our group." Although I'm sure they'll miss out the we had to give him 20mil so he'd let us shoot him.
Honestly, I feel sorry for you.. a, that was silly. b, those people are losers.

lol at this thread. i don't think the warning ppl about sec status is needed tbh. ppl don't trust it, especially not in 0.0 which i'm guessing u were in by the bs npc's. ppl can pirate all their life in 0.0 and have a sec status of +5 if they want.
The number of posts about things like this is getting crazy. warning ppl that pilots in eve are dishonest makes me chuckle. everyone should have learnt by now. there are honest honourable ppl and there is twice as many ppl who aren't bothered with being honest and just want to get a kill.
And ignore the plebs saying "they just want a killmail for their killboards to extend their epeen bollox" it's not about killmails it's about kills, which are fun. and u can trust some ppl but someone giving u isk doesn't earn trust imo.
unlucky on the gank, bit lame and not my style but u really should have guessed.

People like the op (and myself when i first started playing) start the game with good intentions. I was a naive fool and so are many others who are new to the game, nothing wrong with warning them.

I guess so. just makes me laugh that's all that surely everyone knows what kind of harsh pvp game this is when they join. surprised they trust ppl in a game that's all. but the warning is good for nice ppl in game.
