Old Alice Cooper song there... ;)
That being said, I don't quite understand clones. If I die right now, only part of my skills will be transferred? Is there a clone body I can purchase to keep them all? I did a search for clone and could only find vats or blueprints.
I would just hate to spend all this time on skills only to lose them... |

Until quite recently, you had to update your clone upon being podded or risk losing skill points on being podded the next time. Clones had different tiers, so the cheapo ones could hold say a million SP, if you went over that and ended up dying, you'd lose some. This mechanic has been removed however; you can be podded to your heart's content and not worry about SP loss. You probably saw some old information.
Because sometimes you die. And sometimes we are why. GSLLC is Recruiting.
Grrr I tell you. Grrr.

I would just hate to spend all this time on skills only to lose them... As Azda says there's no longer any SP loss from getting podded.
The only time you now suffer SP loss is if you're flying a Strategic Cruiser, also known as T3's (Tengu, Loki, Proteus and Legion), and it explodes. The SP loss in that instance is restricted to one level of one of the subsystem skills, which only apply to those particular ships anyway.

You won't lose your SP. Clones are good for either fast travelling between 2 locations, from one clone to another ( though there's a delay, based on your skills ) or simply have different implants ( Slave, Snake, Crystal, Hardwire, +5 Learning implants etc ) on different clones. The SP clones are out, as people already pointed out, so you won't lose SP if you die anymore ( unless you die in a T3 ship ) |

The standard clones removed, which no one misses. Now it's just automatic, you keep all you SP and don't need to pay for replacing or updating clones. It was sort of like an insurance system, gone and never coming back. Jump clones you can access from the character sheet, install them in stations with the service.

The SP clones are out, as people already pointed out, so you won't lose SP if you die anymore ( unless you die in a T3 ship ) There are medical clones, which are the ones that you used to have to update or lose SP. This led to expensive mistakes, as in a couple of fully fitted battleships or more. This character previously had a medical clone that could hold many many times his current SP, mostly because I was drunk when I upgraded it. I'm not alone in this.
Then there are jump clones as described by Webvan.

Medical Clone = Your respawn point when your pod is destroyed, a.k.a. your home station.
Your current body is a clone. You can move your consciousness, a.k.a. your infomorph, to other clones, a.k.a.clone jumping.
JIta 4-4 (Chronicle) wrote:As for the third thing, we need to return to that moment of capsule breach, when your brain is scanned and transmitted via your capsule back to that facility.
The third thing to realize is that in this moment, the capsuleer has become data. Maybe only for a second, half a second, even less in reality, but for that moment we are nothing but 0 and 1 as we fly across light years of space in between heartbeats. It's so short that almost nobody recognizes the importance of this moment, and it's something only a few of us even want to appreciate.
The idea of the informorph.
The question: What if we just stayed out there and never returned to another clone?
What if we could live out there, and build a bright and better world in that space between? |

As a total side note: Clone is a somewhat misleading term. The body you're in is not a copy of your original. It's a basic body, that probably has plastic bones, so it can be made to look like you.
It's been grown from biomass, which may include dead human bodies. But doesn't have to.
You're pretty much the cheap chicken nugget, where a baseline human is a chicken breast.
