I'm in a corporation that accepts new players, but we're in null-sec.
I want to shore up our corp hanger with a complete list of "new player" skill books that tend to be in high demand to cut down on my having to make trips to empire.
Is there a list of "essential" skill books I can look at so I can take this shopping list and build a surplus to help ease the n00bs transitions from high to null?
Thanks in advance, #thebest |

If you have a spare character slot you should role a brand new one with no training , look at things like armour, shield and engineering skills alongside gunnery, drones and missiles.
Core skills like electronics, navigation and engineering would be a priority in my mind so open that tab and start checking which ones are absent from your new untrained toon.
I'm not saying "**** you do it yourself" but I actually don't have a list so that is what I would do for starting a welcome pack for newbies
Also worth trawling through this sub forum to see if anyone has put something similar together and shared it.
Edit: have you checked the eveuni website? I'm sure there's something like what you are after up there somewhere

**** you do it yourself.
Jokes aside, here is a good list to start with: http://blog.beyondreality.se/Newbie-skill-plan-2
You'll have to fill it out with the other races specific skills, and I'm sure there are some other useful skillbooks to add.
Because sometimes you die. And sometimes we are why. GSLLC is Recruiting.
Grrr I tell you. Grrr.

Cool, thanks for the replies.
Yea I'll use that list and just cross over the race specific ones.
I was just thinking with a game that's been out so long that there was sure to be a de-facto go to list for something like this. I'm sure I'm not the first person to think "hmmm how can I make sure I got the noobs covered". |

I have removed a troll post. Trolling isn't allowed on any forum, but its even more policed on the EVE New Citizens Q&A board.

This is not a cookie cutter one size fits all game. It's not linear like other MMOs. No one can say for sure here are the skills that you will need. Yes that newbie skill plan will be helpful but you are going to have to make your own decisions about how to prioritize and what is important to you based on your personal preferences and playstyle. Heck even where in null sec you are living will affect what you train and when.
My best advice is to keep a jump clone in high sec at a university so that on nights where you know you won't need to be in null for 24 hours you can jump to high sec and inject some needed skills and jump back the next day. |

True, but there are early access skills that could be considered a core group for newbies interested in pretty much everything that involves undocking and I believe that is the core group the OP is requesting info on.
DE and I have our disagreements, in this case I applaud him for what he's trying to do, despite his use of the word noob

Are there core skills for just combat careers? I want to pvp and don't want to look back and see I wasted skills on something that wasn't useful. No offense to the Miners, I tried the career agent and didn't care for that job much :) |

No offense to the Miners, I tried the career agent and didn't care for that job much :) For combat careers I'd second Azda's suggestion of Tippia's Newbie Skill Plan, pretty much everything in it is combat orientated and gives you a good foundation to build on.

All good advice, some more detailed than others.
As for new player starting skills, I agree on it being the basic Core Fitting Skills. After training up those, new players can then set up a more 'Specialized' training program for their chosen career path and ship class.
This is my list of Core Fitting Skills :
Acceleration Control - To maximize Afterburner & MWD speed. Advanced Weapon Upgrades - To reduce turrets and launchers powergrid need. Afterburner - To reduce Afterburner duration & capacitor need. Capacitor Management - To maximize Capacitor. Capacitor Systems Operation - To maximize capacitor recharge rate. CPU Management - To maximize CPU. Electronics Upgrades - To reduce sensors & co-processors CPU requirements. Energy Grid Upgrades - To reduce power modules CPU requirements. Evasive Maneuvering - To increase acceleration & agility. Fuel Conservation - To reduce Afterburner capacitor need. High Speed Maneuvering - To reduce MWD capacitor need. Hull Upgrades - To maximize armor. Mechanics - To maximize structure. Navigation - To increase ship velocity. Power Grid Management - To maximize powergrid. Repair Systems - To operate best armor/hull repair modules. Shield Management - To maximize shield. Shield Operation - To maximize shield recharge rate. Shield Upgrades - To reduce shield upgrades powergrid need. Spaceship Command - To increase ship agility. Warp Drive Operation - To reduce capacitor need for warp. Weapon Upgrades - To reduce turrets and launchers CPU need.
