I read somewhere that looting the can of a suspect no longer results in the looter being suspect flagged. I have a couple of questions.
If I loot another player's can, I am suspect flagged. If I then jettison the loot, since I am suspect, does that mean anyone can take from my can without getting a flag?
And if a third player, such as my alt (not suspect flagged), loots my can and jettisons, nobody can loot his can without getting flagged?
Once my suspect timer expires, are my cans no longer lootable without causing a flag?

Can you see where it would be easier to just go to WH space, lowsex or null to get fights.
Things like this only matter to elite pvp experts that have a need to dupe the unsuspecting into one sided ganks.

If my alt jets a can and I pick it up, then I invite Bronson to a duel.... can he accept the duel?
Once dueling Bronson if I jet the same item that my alt did (I'm still suspect from the initial can flip) and my alt pick it up..... is my alt suspect to Bronson? If he is, can Bronson shoot him during the duel. Can I shoot him too? Can I rep him? If I do rep him, can Bronson's alt now engage me being suspect, dueling and aiding a suspect OR does my involvement in the duel give me free reps on my alt and Bronson's alt can do nothing about it?
I need to know this in case it comes up. Please help me. |

The real point of this question is if Bronson is actually my alt (he isn't) then did I just use 3 alts and a duel to legally remote rep an alt engaged in a conflict with no consequences? I have 3 alts, but no desire to actually find the answer.

I need to know this in case it comes up. Please help me. This made my head hurt too. But, I love a good challenge. Let me take a stab at it.
Assume that your alt is Sam and mine is Brian.
If Sam jets a can and you pick it up, you will be suspect assuming that you're not in the same corp or don't otherwise have permission to pick it up.
If you are suspect, you can still invite me to a duel and I can still accept. Us trading fire as part of a limited engagement does not suspect flag me or extend your flag.
If you drop and item and Sam picks it up, then Sam will be suspect, along with you. (Not just suspect to me, as the suspect flag is universal.)
Yes, if Sam is suspect, I can shoot him (or her) during the duel without getting suspect flagged.
Yes, you can shoot Sam too since Sam is suspect, but you remain suspect flagged.
Repping Sam will extend your suspect timer, but you can do it with no other consequences.
Brian can freely engage either you or Sam since you are both suspect flagged. How you got flagged is irrelevant.

Or simply put the can is suspect mechanically the same as you.
If you are suspect it is and therefore isn't protected.
Make the can someone else's its not yours anymore and therefore it has normal can protections in place again.
You lose suspect your can loses it. Simple enough right? |

OK, 2 questions: How tall is Brian and what is Sam wearing when he picks up the can?

If you give me Leto's thanatos (the one that he owes me) I will endorse you and demand the same from my many scattered minions. Your name will be uttered in the WH void, the depths of SOV null, in the elite empire pvp corps and of course by Momma Thule herself. I can get that woman to do anything (anything).

After seeing this thread, I was inspired to attempt some can flipping just because.
I am happy to report that mining into cans apparently still happens, even with Orcas and haulers on the field.
I am sad to report that nobody did anything to respond to my stealing of one unit of ice, except to leave (which most miners did), until my suspect timer was almost up.
I am happy to report that someone did finally respond by landing a D3 in the belt and locking me up.
I am sad to report that of all the ships I had in my friendly Orca's ship bay to jump into, none of them would likely have beaten a D3, so I withdrew.
Final report: can flipping is potentially alive and well, I was just ill prepared for it i my hasty planning.
Carry on.
Oh, and Serendipity, I was using a Venture as my thief/bait ship. Still no BBM for you.

Being able to take things owned by a suspect flagged character without gaining a flag yourself because it severely hampers the ability of the can flipper to actually take anything of value from the miners.
As it is right now if you actually want to deny the miners their ore you have to shoot the can or re-flip it with an alt. Shooting the can is suboptimal, because while it annoys the ever living crap out of the miners it gives them no opportunity to try and take their ore back. Re-flipping it with an alt is suboptimal because it requires an alt.
Overall it's just not quite as good as the previous system, which is a shame, because canflipping that the one truly accessible form of highsec PVP that literally anyone could do with less than an hour of training and a T1 frigate, inherently happens in open space, makes potentially eventful and genuinely required good piloting and situational awareness. |

No argument here. My entire mission was predicated on the notion of one of the mining ships aggressing me, which is much less likely then one of them trying to steal their own ore back.
On the flip side (no pun intended), straight-up ore thieves have it pretty easy now. Park an Orca or DST next to the can, have a cheapo disposable ship loot the can straight into the fleet hangar, and yer done. There's less likelyhood of direct combat, but thievery is still PvP.
