When I picked my home base I picked a system that borders another region and accesses two lo-sec systems. I have found out that by jumping to the other region, the prices of nearly everything helps me. I mine to make income and the ore prices are substantially higher (3 -4 isk per unit) and the ship and equipment prices are substantially lower. When the market changes I can pick which region to buy/sell to improve my position.
Also when I chose to go lo-sec, I have two choices. Most of the time one of them is quiet and the other active, as in dead ships and being pod'd.
I picked a great location. If you are brand new, after you acclimated to the workings of EVE, look around for a good location for your home, as I did. It helps! |

This is awesome - thank you for sharing. You might be aware of this term already; in financial and the for-real trading markets, this is known as 'arbitrage'. It's basically the ability to make money based on discrepancies between two separate market places. I think, but am not sure, that it is called 'region trading' in Eve.
Either way, yeah, I've heard one can do pretty well when keeping an eye on bordering regions with different markets. Good for you. I also think eve-central can help with this kind of thing.

When I started, I was mining in a hisec island. There was little competition for asteroids there.
I didn't know I wasn't supposed to go into lowsec. I knew what it was and understood the risk.
I saw battles on the gates, but they ignored me... because they were in a battle and I was no immediate threat. I just warped away. |
