That thing will cost you about the same as two Pith A-Type's (or one and a DG invul with a few hundred mill to spare). I'd much rather have one of those than that thing on there. A lot more suicide-proof (no potential 1.3B loot).
I'd rather pimp the gyros than the tank all together though, meal can tank level 4s easily without any low slots or pimped gear, it's the dps department that needs help. |

My bad, I checked contracts and I forgot the "X-", I searched for the large one not the x-large, but its still good with just the large one I think, I aimed for having as few slots as possible dedicated to tank and most to dps and tracking.
Downgrade to Gist C-Type Large Shield Booster, and change the rigs to:
CCC T2
Metastasis T2
Metastasis T1 or dmg rigs if you prefer

I needed a cheap missioning ship, so this is what I came up with - works pretty well, haven't had tanking problems ever, and on many of the missions I don't even need to use the cap booster.

This works great. Never have tanking issues (don't remember the last time I had to warp out of a L4), moves fast (430 or so m/s), tears up BS and Cruiser-class, and the Drones take care of the small stuff with ease. I can manage the XL Booster so I never go below 30% cap, and it only goes that low in extreme circumstances.
I could swap the Overdrive for more cap recharge or a Tracking Enhancer, but I've never needed to and I like the speed.
If I get a missions that has tons and tons of rats that like to orbit at 30km or more, I put T2 1200mm arties on instead of the ACs, but that's pretty rare.
Love this ship, fun to fly.

I recently picked up EVE again, however my system is somewhat unstable and i haven't found a solution yet. Thats the reason i wanted to make a setup wich is relatively cheap but strong in survivability and still decent in power, so no named modules, all tech 2, with some exceptions due to cpu problems.

Thats roughly 90M exclusive drones + the ships coast. Not such a terrible thing to loose when the system crashes. I like to have a Cap booster for unforseen emergency's like forgetting to put off the shield booster  
You need a cpu implant with this setup tho.

well from all I have read (and I have had a maelstrom for some time now) that 8 1400"s is not an acceptable gun setup in missions due to in part that when you warp into the gates (in mission gates) you warp right into the middle of the battle usually, thus the advantage of only long range guns is useless.. this ship shield tanks well for the most part however even with cruise missiles 3x and drones it still would be vulnerable with only long range guns. your better off loading 2 close range t2 guns and 3 1400's \3 cruise launchers and start hitting close ones with missiles and close guns and drones thus killing what usually is the scrambling group while targetting incoming larger vessls with the 3 1400's till they get close (which by the way the 1400's will still shoot close range on bigger vessels )
