Hello!
This weekend I got extremely nostalgic for Eve Online, and I returned. I've retained a lot of the basics. My character was always only casual, 15m skill points. Enough to comfortably move around in Eve.
The big challenge coming back is trying to find an overview / guide to everything that's been added or changed in two years. There seems to be all sorts of activities in the universe that I have no clue about. I also don't know how to get up to speed on all the ship changes, balance changes, basic gameplay changes. (For example, when I returned I discovered that all the T2 Rails on my battleships don't work because apparently the skill prerequisites changed and I am short a skill I need 10 days to train. Mind you, I had the skills when I left, so clearly there's been some skill adjustments in the meantime.)
Things I've never done (though at least one of these if not both had come in right before I left) include faction warfare and wormholes. Anyway, right now I'm just looking for guides, videos or helpful players to assist me in catching up with everything that's changed in EVE!
Please give me recommendations if know know any good resources for me to get up to speed. |

Brief overview of what I remember:
- they buffed T1 ships (with more slots, power grid, and CPU) so they're more powerful and closer to T2 in terms of raw fitting power.
- they reduced the requirements/prerequisites for a lot of T2 modules from various skills at level 4 or 5 to only level 3 required.
- they split a lot of the ship skills (the skills under Spaceship Command) into 4, one for each race. For example, before, you could fly all destroyers if you had all frigates at 4 and the skill Destroyers at 1. Now you have to train the skills Caldari Destroyer, Gallente Destroyer, etc. They gave everyone equivalency points based on what was trained at the time; you may have a whole bunch of unassigned points.
- they added T3 destroyers, Sisters of EVE exploration ships, a freighter-like ship for moving ships, and a bunch of easily deployable and anchorable structures for POS-like benefits for the solo pilot (highsec, lowsec, and null).
- they've worked in (through lore) a new type of NPC, Sleepers, with advanced AI that will pod, follow you in warp, and other such PVP-like combat tactics.
- they're in the process of revamping the way sovereignty works for the null alliances. Also, the role of capital and super-capital ships.
- they've changed the map to a 3-d rendering of the galaxy, and proudly announced that it was "out of beta" when they released it on TQ to be beta-tested by us.
- they added the ship paintjobs (SKINs) as a "one SKIN per ship" system, with a UI window to keep track of them and "collect" them.
- they've removed the old Aura tutorials and replaced them with "Opportunities", a non-linear system that just warns you that you've successfully done something important after you do it.
- they changed all the icons in space with new, completely different, tiny ones.

2 1/2 years ?
That's quite a long break. No wonder you're confused.
Don't feel bad, most people who remained subbed also feel like that. CCP stopped doing 6 month expansions and now does game releases every 6 weeks. Basically messing everybody up.
Anyway, welcome back to Eve, may you have a long and rewarding career this time around.

Even those of us who have been around feel the same. You've been away a long time. There is no guide or anything like that which can fully get you up to speed. You've been linked some helpful resources to get you moving in that direction but I just want to say don't feel overwhelmed or left behind. Eve is just a complex game and I don't think there is anyone that fully "gets" it.

Through all changes the devs always said if you could use it before you will be able to use it after the changes. As far as I understand it there are no changes that have been made which would lock someone out of doing something that they previously could do, like flying a ship or using a module for example.
So I am kind of confused as to what you are saying here when I heard all the devs repeat over and over that the situation that you describe would never happen.

FW and wormholes have both been around about as long as I've been in the game which is to say 2009 or so. Are you sure that you were only away for 2.5 years? |

There was one small change: all navy ships require level 2 now instead of level 1.
CCP Ytterbium wrote:Increasing requirement to fly Navy Battleships previously known as Tier 1 (Armageddon Navy Issue, Scorpion Navy Issue, Dominix Navy Issue, Typhoon Fleet Issue) from level1 to level2 to make it consistent with other navy ships.
Since the training from level1 to level2 only takes a few hours, we will not adjust your Racial Battleship level. Please make sure you train it before the change if you still wish to be able to fly Navy Battleships. |

It is amazing how many of us old players have returned recently. Life has cycle and this is one of them. I returned about a month ago after over 3 year hiatus. |
