I currently play on a desk top that can run eve on ultra settings. But it is a desktop, so it stays where its at. I would like to have a laptop so i can play eve other places. The biggest problem is getting my wife on board (ie getting her permission to buy a laptop). So to help this problem get solved i need the least exspensive laptop i can get that plays eve. It will do nothing more than surf for videos of women who have had their cloths blown off by very large speakers, yotube and eve, mainly eve. So whats the minimum integrated graphics card that will run eve? Or the minimum dedicated card that will run it? Thanks influence

Runs fine for me on an i5 with a 720m nvidia card.
There used to be issues with the integrated Intel cards, especially on gates. No idea if that was fixed. |

I'd say something like this then scroll down and select one of the solid state drives as the option. You want at least in the 2ghz cpu range (2.2+ really), nvidia, ati or intel HD graphics. And also an SSD drive, not a mass storage mechanical HDD drive. If you get a general use bargain laptop which has an HDD, pull it out and slave it onto the desktop, replace with an SSD which are pretty cheap now, just install windows on it and enter your product code it's easy to do. This will work as a bargain gaming laptop, anything less I wouldn't bother.

From HERE
Quote: Minimum System Requirements:
OS: Windows XP SP2 / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 CPU: Intel Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz, AMD Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz RAM: XP SP2 GÇô 1 GB / Vista and newer GÇô 2 GB Video: AMD Radeon 2600 XT or NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
You can get away with a fairly cheap laptop.
I managed to get EVE running on a Cube i6 tablet. Using the onboard Intel graphics.
Granted, min settings, but it managed a solid 30FPS. Which is playable for EVE.
So you CAN get away with running EVE on a $200 PC.

Main thing is you cant easily upgrade them, even if at all. Then they are more expensive at the bargain range compared to the PC, unless you go with a refurbished laptop which can be ok if you can really inspect it before buying. But going with a barely minimum laptop may not guarantee it will still run EVE in a couple years. I paid about $650 for mine a few years ago, still runs EVE great, and especially with an SSD drive after the HDD drive getting bumped and melting luckily not destroying the rest of the laptop. Runs a lot better than new now, even CQ at full settings, though a little slow there, and not that I actually load CQ normally.

Thanks for the input so far, but what version intel hd would be needed ie 4400 5500 etc, Iam guessing to run eve the 5500 is the lowest version and the ati r5 is just about the same is that correct?

works kinda okay on a first gen surface pro, i5 (pretty low clock speed though, not sure how that compares to other processors) and intel hd 4000 graphics. I usually just use it in station, but it worked for mission running. main reason for not even trying pvp would be the keyboard is a bit annoying for that kinda thing.
can probably get better specs for less in a more conventional form factor.

I don't really recommend gaming on a laptop, as I've cooked two very expensive gaming-grade laptops; cooked a video board on one twice, the first time was under warranty, the second time lead to current laptop.
I currently use a non-gaming, media-grade laptop (i7-3632QM @ 2.2 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, Nvidia GT 640M, Intel HD 4000), with EVE settings disabled or at minimum (it can do max settings). To date, it's survived the longest.
Laptops just can't effectively deal with heat. |

Laptops just can't effectively deal with heat. That's one of the main reasons I note SSD as as indispensable for a gaming laptop. The heat reduction is huge. My laptop with the old drive use to spin the fan at max, now it hardly runs and can only feel a slight bit of warmth on the bottom of the case, nothing from the hard drive at all, huge increase to life expectancy. Another point it's not going to break if you drop or bump the laptop. Lastly load times are 10x faster compared to the faster HDD (including virtual memory), which laptops usually use the slower ones due to the heat.
I've been gaming on laptops almost twenty years, SSD is one of the best improvements for a laptop if not thee best, probably thee best. Well gaming as gaming can be for my first one a 386SX but have had a bunch since then. I play on my current one sometimes when I roam around, but mostly it hangs out near my music instruments and functions as a studio computer with cables everywhere. I tend to game more on my tablet when not at my desktop PC, though my tablet can't run EVE. My next one will be a convertible 2 in 1 (laptop-tablet running windows), when performance gets a bit better with the coming new generation hardware (e.g. 3D XPoint).

Ya i dont want to spend the money on gaming laptop, i just want to play EVE, and thats it. I do like the ssd drive upgrade idea very much. So if it can run at min settings with intel hd or intel hd 4400. Anything above that should be fine then iam guessing.

If your worried about heat buy something like one of Thermaltakes "massive" notebook cooling pad range. They make a difference, my Acer reboots itself in some games without one.
If money is an issue just place something under the notepad to improve airflow and never use it sitting on a soft surface like a bed, cushion or your lap. |
