Hello,
So I been playing this game for a while now the only reason I found it was thru a friend. found out this game is 10+ yrs old but I dont find any TV ads nor have I ever seen any on TV here in the USA
I seen ads for WoW and a bunch of other games. why as CCP never put out a TV ad for this game ?
from what I been reading the player base is going down and no one really plays this game.
I just paid for a Year I hope this game last this long from what I been getting.
MAIN POINT THO WHY CCP DOES NO ADs ON TV??? like Ever one ELSE |

I am going to guess here: you don't watch the SyFy channel or many Science Fiction TV series.
CCP targets their advertisements to reach the people most likely to be interested. |

I don't need twitter.
I'm already following you.

EvE is dying since shortly after beta in 2003. It's dying since I'm playing the game, it's also dying today and it certainly will be dying in a year from now ... once you accommodate to this dying game it's really fun.
... you can start being concerned if the doomsayers go quiet.

I would think "Killjoys" and "Dark Matter" would be likely shows for EVE ads and probably the new show "The Expanse". |

Eve was advertised during BSG on the SyFy channel, I don't know if they still do as I tend to stream shows without adverts.

I think that commercial should get a prize for least effective advertisement campaign in the history of anything. If that was meant to sell a product I don't think they could have done a worse job...

its also way cheaper to do it they way they are. and it actually works better for the goals of eve. We spread the word of mouth and gain players. It helps when eve has more players.
we are currently in a 'restructure, repair, and rebuild' phase. these tend to be lull periods of new players and people tend to leave because they 'get bored' What typically happens at the end of such periods is the then rebuilding launches something epic that draws people back in. this in tern can cause said thing to grow.
though sometimes, the thing passes a thresh hold, once that thresh hold is passed, whateve ris rebuilding can;lt gian momentum and dies. This typically takes a long time though.
Which way will eve go? idk, but ads won;t help until the current player base gets past the rebuild phase and moral of the vocal player improves.
In other words...
We don;t need to stinking ad's right now.

Nah that'd be the anti piracy ads that have been forced down our throats for years by the music and film industries, the only decent anti piracy ad I've ever seen is a spoof

What's the point, though? It's meaningless, as EVE is such a niche product and experience - so much so that it is perhaps not beyond the realms of possibility that if you seriously wanted to play this game, you would've arrived here under your own power, not through advertising.
That's how I ended up here, meandering through the internet and not through advertising. I'm sure it was the same for others.

You know what the point of advertising is. Question is, why would you - or anyone else for that matter - have a problem with it in relation to EVE? |

They ought to run an ad that calls out all the other MMORPG game players, i.e. "when you're ready to take off your training wheels and play a real game . . . Eve Online . . . "
Often in talking to other gamers, I get the "Oh, that game is just too hardcore" or some variation when talking of Eve. The outside world sees Eve Online as the fifth circle of hell and Eve Online players as demons. Work with it. Call them pussies and tell them they ain't s**t until they've played Eve Online.
That monocle looks ridiculous.-á

The first MMORPG I ever played was a game called DarkSpace which I played for 1 1/2 years. It was mainly PvP with spaceships taking over planets which were built up to gain control of the Universe. During that time I saw in-game chat about Eve Online. Needless to say it was presented in a very negative aspect so I never gave Eve Online a second thought.
Eventually I started to grow tired of the constant PvP aspect in that game so I quit. However, the building of planets had peeked my interest in PvE and I started to look for another MMORPG spaceship game.

I saw that TV Ad on 5/30/2008 while watching BSG series. That was about 6 months after I had stopped playing DarkSpace. At first I thought that commercial was actually part of the show until I saw the Eve Online credits at the end. That made me remember seeing chat about it while playing DarkSpace. Since I was looking for a new MMORPG to play, I decided to do some research on it and spent a couple of weeks checking out the Internet.
I got very interested in the PvE aspect of Eve Online due to Exploration videos made by DNightmare. On 6/23/2008 I started my 14 day free Trial Account. I was hooked and on 7/6/2008 I started a subscription and haven't looked at any other MMORPG since then.

Everybody has a different story about how they heard about / started playing this game. I'm sure there are other players besides me who started playing this game due to the advertising done on TV.
I believe all types of advertising media should be used to gain new players. In my opinion even if it brings in 1 more player then it's well worth it. I've been here for well over 7 years now due to seeing a 30 second TV Commercial.
